What Card in Your Wallet?

just reached the threshold for the companion pass with Southwest. All flights for southwest for the rest of this year and next year are buy one get one free for me

If you have B of A you hate your money I am just saying.

Amex not All Business take them their rates are crazy for the ppl taking them at their store.

Visa is not able to be used with the IRS and Sams Club I know for sure.

Discover is about the all around widely accepted CC.

That is just my experience.

Discover is not taken at a lot of places
I generally don't have too bad of a time with mine.

That said, I'm paying down a bit of my credit card debt (only about $1500, nothing huge) so right now, it's just my bank card, student ID (which is also a checking account), work ID, AAA, health insurance, Costco membership and photo ID.

Amex Black card. The only card you will ever need.

I have a Centurion Card for my business.

When I was first offered it, I honestly had no idea it was that big of a deal.

I used it at a restaurant one time and I swear the waitress about had an orgasm right on the spot.

It was odd.

If you are single and wanna get laid and qualify, get a Centurion card. if you are married, just let it go...opens a huge can of worms.

Is the Centurion that much better to justify the $2500 annual fee and $5000 initiation fee for the Centurion, vs the $450 a year for the Platinum

Discover is not taken at a lot of places

Discover is not taken at "some" places and anymore they're few and far between and typically holes in the wall honestly. I ran into maybe 4 over the past 11 years but I always had a backup Visa or MasterCard I could use.

I know you probably got these numbers from the Forbes article and that may be true for the personal card side, but this wasn't the case for mine which is a commercial card. I have it solely for large office purchases and it was offered to me directly from an AMEX rep due to the volume I put through as a merchant with them.

haven't had much trouble with this, but there are a few places.

Cookout on the strip, goodwill, and UTtix doesn't take discover.

Other than that, it's great and I like it alot

Discover is not taken at a lot of places

This is true. I want to use my Discover card everywhere I go, but it seems there are just a lot of garage sales and lemonade stands that refuse to take it.

A homeless guy asked me for money the other day, but he didn't accept Discover. I was just like... really? Get with the times.

Honestly it depends on what you are looking for. I prefer to change my credit card once a year because of the offers that you can get. It doesn't do much damage to my credit, and I pay it off every month.

AAdvantage has the best promotion if you are wanting to do something like go to Hawaii. Get 30K Frequent Flyer mile points after 3,500 spent in the first 3 months. First year fee is waived. Coach tickets to Hawaii are 17.5K for a one way ticket. Get a card for you and a separate for your wife and you have a trip to Hawaii. First Class is 24.5

Southwest has a promotion right now that you can get 50K for a personal credit card and 50K for a business credit card. If you qualify for both that can give you 100K points on the start. This is enough for 4 round trip tickets. Also, if you can accrue 110,000 points in a year you get a companion pass. This is where for the rest of this year and next year for every flight that you fly with southwest you get one ticket free.

US Airways gives you 30,000 after 3,500 spent in the first three months. This isn't enough to get you to Hawaii and back. That takes around 40,000 points. Their bonus is that you get 2 companion passes immediately. $99 a piece. So if you get to 40K then you can take two people with you for $200.

Chase ink just ended a promotion giving 2% cash back and you get 30,000 points if you spend 5,000 in the first 3 months. This equals to them paying you $600. Not sure what their new deal is now, but you need to get at least 2% cash back on any card if you want to go this route.

If you are looking for a hotel credit card I suggest you look at where you are wanting to go and check the promotions offered for that city.

To answer your question my wallet has AAdvantage in it. They did a promotion that I took advantage of and got 80K points.

Update on my cards

Currently I have 95,000 Southwest Point. I also have the companion pass. (Buy one plane ticket get one free for me and my wife) Had enough to fly family in for Christmas

Currently on my AAvantage I have 120,000 points. Plan on saving them some more and flying the family to Hawaii.

50,000 on US Airways. They have mergered with AA and by May I should be able to buy AA flights with these points to be able to combine offers. Also, These come with an annual companion pass.

I also have 0 debt. You can abuse credit card companies as long as you pay things off immediately.

Just FYI:

I had one of my credit cards get cancelled out of the blue on me for being dormant. If you've got a card in the back of your wallet you don't use often you might consider putting just the smallest charge on it every 6 months if you want to keep that line of credit open. I was not aware they could or would do this until recently.

I've had that done to me as well, or credit limit reduced
