You're probably thinking about Buck Belue, Georgia's quarterback when they won the NC. Buck Fitzgerald was a defensive back for UT's NC team in 1998-99. Here's a link:

So youre telling me we could beat Bama not once, but twice? Can I please have a copy of your script?
Concerning what he saw this offseason compared to last:
"I think the talent level is greatly improved at just about every level. I think the coaching staff is a lot better. I really think that they will have as much talent as anybody they play in the first 22 guys except Bama. On offense, they have a future pro at just about every position. Not many teams can say that. I think the defensive coaching staff is so much better now its crazy. And their mentality fits the players and whay they are trying to do on offense. They will be able to play complimentary football. I will be disappointed if they don't get to Atlanta at the end of the season. They don't have to win it, but I think with this better coaching staff, and better more mature players they should at least win the East."
Weakest link- kicking game. Hope the new coach is focusing on them more. Other than that I think we can compete with and beat anyone. Injuries will mess things up of course but hopefully the team and coaches can handle it better this yr if it happens to the same level as last yr. GBO!!!!!
Too bad we aren't going to only have to rely on the first 22. The depth is still where our problem rests, our next 22 is still a combo of too inexperienced/not talented enough to be able to produce a spot in Atl.
Hope I'm wrong but I just don't see it yet.

They also didn't get the other team off the field very often in the second half, allowing the O to have a chance. Hard to score points if you only touch the ball a couple times a half.
The answer to why the expectation for a better D with the 3-4 is because the players on the roster are better suited for it. CDD had to recruit the best available players that would someday be ready for that scheme. To borrow from Covey, he began with the end in mind when he was hired. He inherited a 4-3 roster. He recruited for a 3-4 roster. The transition period is over. Now he implements and has the right DC to get it done.
Posters use UGA's conversion as an example of it taking a couple of years to get it right. That is partially true. The reads and reactions have to become automatic, which takes time. But Richt did not recruit for a 3-4 for 2-3 years before implementing like Dooley. I am anticipating the conversion to go much more smoothly than UGA's because of the natural instincts and physical nature of the players on the roster.
This is the year to break out of the malaise and for Dooley to make a case for a long term successful future on the Hill. I hope it happens. Go Vols!

who at the RB is a future NFL back? Nothing I seen shows me that any RB is a pro. Is there potential to be a NFL back, Yes. Right now? No.
I would say exactly the opposite, that the O didn't stay on the field long enough for the D to conserve enough energy to make it to the end of the game, considering they had no depth.
Even when we were clicking, it was with the passing game. So we were STILL scoring too quickly.
It's all about the run game.
I was pretty impressed with Wilcox's schemes. He always seemed to have us in the game at halftime. This goes to scheme. Wussing out in the fourth quarter goes to depth, which he had no control over.
That said, I expect Sal to have us in much better shape.
