What are your expectations for Jalen Hurd this year?

using his injury in HS as a reason he'll be injured in college is idiotic

I don't even know where to start with this. You obviously have no medical background. I will pretend you didn't post this.

pretend whatever you want but it is relevant to the reasons being tossed around as to why he will be injured throughout his career. The injury he sustained was not because of his workload or from repeated hits. It was because someone fell on it while extended in an awkward position. He then shut it down to prepare for college ball. By all accounts it is fine and he performed well during the spring.

Ball security and to be ready when his # is called. If he does that, hopefully the yards and TDs will be there.

I don't know what to expect. I do know that he reminds me of a combination of Bo Jackson, Hershel Walker and Eric Dickerson with maybe just a touch of Barry Sanders. It's tough to say whether he will get to 3,000 yards and 40 tds this year. Anything less than 2,000/25 will be a bust of a year though.

woah woah woah woah.... who said we have a line to produce a runningback for 1000+, especially 2 running backs with over 1000 yards. If they do I will be spinning on my head and singing rocky top in, hope they dont disappoint our super high expectations. (God bless these young players that are striving to live up to the expectations of VN fans, please help Hurd grow wings and become the best runningback in the last decade with the most inexperienced line.) Our QB play will need a prayer to anyone?

What do you guys expect out of Darrel scott? I'm really excited to see what the 3 of them guys can bring to the table!!

Yeah this....because as talented as Jalen is a full load immediately in the SEC is asking way too much IMO....I want him to learn how to compete in the SEC and I think we're in for a shared work load among our running backs...We definitely don't want any major injuries among these guys especially Jalen....and I agree with you...Darrel Scott may be THE MAN....we just need to be able to block upfront....That's what tempers my expectations with any of our offense at this point...the development of our Oline....

While this is a common opinion, think back to some of the recent better UT RB's. Hardesy had a great senior season with a couple of 260 lb walk ons getting alot of snaps in the OL. Henry and Lewis just flat made their own holes at times almost refusing to be tackled. Now if the OL is a sieve and the RB is getting nailed 3 yards in the backfield then it's going to be a long season on Rocky Top.

Powerful RB's who can make one cut and lower their shoulder pads tend to perform well in the SEC. Those that dance around and continually attempt to bump things outside tend to struggle with the speed of SEC defenses. What type of runner will Hurd be?

I think Lane has shown to be a one cut and go type already and if he stays healthy he will be hard to steal too many carries from IMHO.

That's why I think you'll see us running wide a lot and up the middle later in the games...But I think our OLine can develop....but to spring a 1000 yard rusher in the defense dominate SEC is another question all together...

Could be similar to Reggie Cobb's Redshirt Freshman year "For the season, he had a school-record 1,721 all-purpose yards, including a team-leading 1,197 rushing yards. His 20 touchdowns (17 rushing and three receiving) was second in the nation behind Paul Hewitt's 24, and tied an SEC record." You never know. Reggie's recruiting class was really good, similar to the 2013 class.

All I know is.......He Fassss. If he gets in the open field, it will be tough to catch him. Honestly think he will be hit or miss this season, with games of over 100-150 yards, and then games where he won't be much of a factor at all.

I give him 850-1000 yds and 10 tds.

People said the same things about Bryce Brown before his freshman year. We all know how that worked out.

People said the same things about Lane before his freshman year. He performed well, but wasn't as awesome as some predicted.

People said the same thing about Devonte Bourque. He was gone in two weeks.

Let's start by having more moderate expectations. Otherwise, some of you guys are always going to be setting yourselves up for disappointment.

Brown would have been a star, and Bourque was a HUGE project at RB... That was pointed out by some

I think D Scott will surprise many this year. Baring an injury to Lane, he'll get most of the carries followed by an equal share between Hurd/Scott. I think Hurd will end up with between 500/700 yards as he adjusts to the speed of the SEC (plus playbook, sets, etc.). He's also recovering from a shoulder surgery. It'll be nice to see how he responds as he leans forward for a yard or two and takes a direct hit from a OLB on that shoulder. I expect Scott to get between 450-500 yards as well.

With his history of shoulder injuries he is a risk every time he gets hit.

Please enlighten us on his history of shoulder injuries.I know of one,his senior year.Did he have more or are you just makeing up something just to post?

Hurd did well in the spring game. He responded well to hits then.

I think his shoulder injury is getting a little overplayed. He could have played on it last year but elected to get healthy for college. The way he was landed on, most everyone would have gotten injured. They did stabilizing surgery on it to make it stronger than it was before.

There was a lot of protective measures going on because it's the spring and was Hurds first contact in awhile. Going through summer workouts and then fall camp, he should be even more ready than the spring.

He had surgery after his junior year, on a different spot than his second injury(not sure if 100% accurate I'm just going off memory).

His second injury came because his arm was completely extended and a kid landed on top of it. Made his arm go past the natural movement range. Most everyone would have gotten injured there, had nothing to do with his previous injury.

600-700 yards 6TD with good OL play maybe a little more, with good OL play we could have a heck of a offence.

I too expect Scott to surprise a lot of people,go watch his film kids got a spark. No question to me that Hurd is the better all around back but Marshall was higher rated and had more hype than Gurley and look how that one turned out. I could care less who is the best if they can have a D.McFadden/Felix Jones relationship or play like them two at all

His shoulder injury is getting way overplayed. He could run over a Mack truck right now, and the last thing that would be hurt on his body would be his right shoulder. 98% of Volnation have no idea the procedure that was performed and also do not realize that its twice as solid as the other shoulder now. In order for that shoulder to ever dislocate again, bones would have to break. He has barriers that have been put in place to keep dislocation from ever happening again.

I hate injury talk on these boards. At any given moment, any player on any team can fall to an injury. Sitting around projecting and anticipating the injury of the kids on our team is just twisted.
