What are some plays/formations that you HATE?

Oregon, Auburn, Florida under Urban Myer, and USCjr all understand running out of the shotgun.

It is actually an advantage for the offense, you get to spread the defense and force them to play pass, and if you have a qb who can hold the backside DE, the numbers are now in the offenses favor in the running game (as opposed to running from under center, where you lose one player because the QB hands the ball off).

I love screen passes. I think we don't use enough screens.

Might have...don't recall, but for every draw that went to the house on 3rd and long, there's about 20 that didn't work.

I for one like to see trick plays when we are underdogs or evenly matched anyways. I hate seeing us flea flicker or half back pass against inferior opponents. Teams that we should beat being vanilla.

I remember cursing Fulmer repeatedly that game, but that was the play that sealed the deal and broke our 14 game winning streak. It was calls like that, that made me realize we were winning in spite of coaching.

But the fact that we can run the draw, makes the LB's hesitate a bit on 3rd and long. Plus, sometimes you're just as likely to get 20 yards on a run or screen as you are on a pass (especially if Matt Simms is in the game).

Don't forget the same play was called the following year in Knoxville when all the Vols had to do was pick up a 1st down to kill the clock against the Gators....toss sweep to Henry failed miserably....then came the phantom TD BS

Speaking of wr screens, just saw one in the 03 MSU game. Went 60 yards. But it was called against the proper look and both linemen got out in front like they were supposed. Qb's who can read coverage and make checks are in short supply. The play sent in from the sideline is "guessing" the coverage. At the line, the qb actually sees the defense. The play the coach called may need to be changed.

Same bad blocking both years. The toss sweep out flanks the defense if ran correctly. Ran improperly it looks fairly bad.

What! how can you hate the stretch play! I'm about to finish a bottle of Knob Creek, because I know of no other way to deal with such a statement!

The stretch is one of the largest parts of Oregon and Urban Myer's offenses. A lot of pro, college, and HS teams are getting rid of the inside zone play, because stretch is so much easier to teach and execute. The stretch play is the entire reason why I love zone running plays.

The stretch play is what made Peyton Manning s entire offense work in Indy.

Well that, and those who actually realize that most formation's have plays that work if used properly and at the proper time.

Exhibit A-The draw play(Either a simgle back or shotgun). A great play to use on a first down when a team is running a defensive package focusing on pass plays such as the nickel or dime.

However, consistent use of this play on 3 and 8 or 9 while using the reasoning of flipping the field is not a favorable use of this play IMO.

Exhibit B-Dive plays. Can be similar to a draw but usually out of an I formation or a formation with a lead blocker. Great play to establish the run early in games and early in a set of downs.

Not a favorite when trying to establish the run in the 4th quarter after chunking the ball around the entire game. Many times this will cause 3 and outs and allow the opponent extra shots to get back in the game and even win from time to time.

So in conclusion, this was an obvious thread begging for obvious answers from the masses. I could go on and on based on personal experience and years of watching Majors/Fulmer football.

the scissors play...when you listen to Kesling on the radio,every negative play seems to be the scissors play up the middle...

I need to start watching more,cause I still haven't seen it with my own eyes...
Its like an urban legend

I just don't want to ever hear Kesling say "runs the scissors play up the
middle for a 2 yard loss."

Again I firmly believe any formation if executed properly with talented enough players is the key. If not executed properly then the X's & O's get us. However if executed properly and the other side of the the executes properly, then it comes down to who has the better Jimmys' & Joes'.
