What about Bobby Johnson at UT

Would he fit in at UT? He seems to be a truely coach and has really kept Vandy in some really close games. From what I hear he has lots of disipline too, no cussing on the field and all yes sir no sir. What do you think?
I'm just trying to figure out what a "truely" coach is.

Maybe not---Tommy Bowden's buyout is bigger than fulmer's and Clemson can't afford it. They just signed him to a long term deal (dumb).

I did not see the game but according to ESPN, fans were leaving early there as well this past weekend. I find it a little hard to believe that a buyout at Clemson would be that expensive or should I say that hard for their boosters to handle.

I just talked to one of my clients who lives up in Greenville---Bowden's buyout is $4 mil, so Fulmer's ($5.5 mil) is a little higher. They are sick of Bowden up there and I wouldn't be surprised if some of the boosters don't get the cash together to get him out. Losing to maryland was embarrassing.

That is 100% on the mark...the days of moving somebody up ala Fulmer for the big schools is over with. Thats why I say that Stoops is the number one guy on the list.

Laugh all you want but Stoops got the taste of SEC ball, the money will be there and Stoops may have the nads to get back into the grinder and see if he can really be all he can be.
It's simple, UT has to go after a big name, and one that can recruit...not that many out there folks. Stoops, Davis etc... Petersen is a great in vogue choice...but can he recruit the entire USA...I don't know.

You might want to read and research the history of college football a little more before fixating on Stoops. Oklahoma is a bigger name than Tennessee when it comes to college football. It could be argued Oklahoma has as much or more tradition than Alambama for that matter.

NO WAY Stoops will leave Oklahoma to come to Tennessee. He would have to be an idiot

I think I just threw up a little.

Have you seen Stoops salary? We can't even come close to that. Why would Stoops leave a national powerhouse for less money? Just to coach in the SEC? Doubt it. Love to see him here, but just won't happen.
Money will not be an issue for UT...anybody that believes that is silly. Yes I doubt Stoops will leave as well but he will be offered. If only for the fact that UT makes a statement.

Really I didn't know that about OU. Seriously, I know my history when it comes to football, more so than most and Stoops name will be in the mix...never said he'd take it just that his name will be priority. 1st 2 up will be Stoops and Davis.

Again, I know all about OU football and to be frank...it's kinda boring out there. For a school with so much tradition I think i'd rather go to a Titans game. Not that it will make much difference on Stoops.

UT can pay Stoops whatever it takes to leave OU. He would be the top of the line hire, worth every penny, even if it takes $5-6 mil per year.

I'll believe it when I see it. I just can't see Tennessee paying off Fulmer's buyout and then throwing 6 mill a year at Stoops. And even if they did, why would he leave Oklahoma for us?

Seriously, do people just look at the scores and pick somebody who won last weekend and start a "XXX for New Coach" thread?

"Skip Holtz is a genius! He has ECU ranked!"

"Dude, he just lost to Houston."

"Who coaches them? Let's get that guy!"

Exactly half of the NCAA coaches won last weekend. Some pretty good ones lost. Both of these facts have very little to do with who should be at the helm in Knoxville.

Bobby Johnson will probably be getting plenty of calls from Clemson about their head coach vacancy at the end of the year. I think he played for Clemson or is at least from the area anyway.

The only think that is tainting Bobby Johnson's name is the schools that he is associated with. If he takes Vandy to a bowl this year, the sky is the limit for him.

He's sitting on 4-0 (with 2 SEC wins already!), a national ranking, and only needs to win half of these four games - Duke, MSU, Kentucky, UT - to get Vandy to a bowl for the first time in a quarter of a century.

He does this despite coaching at the SEC school with by far the highest academic standards and no athletic director, the worst facilities in the conference, the lowest budget, and absolutely no winning tradition unless you're going to go back to the '20s and '30s.

He needs and deserves a better job. If Vandy goes bowling, he'll get a better job. Probably not at UT, but I would certainly take a long, hard look at him before passing him by (although I'd prefer to go with a younger coach, and I like Petersen more.)

Agreed. My son was on the team for a couple of years under him and you won't find a more stand up guy. I don't think that UT would be his answer but he's destined for something bigger. One things for sure... he would whip some players in place.

If Bobby Johnson and his staff was at U.T. we would't be 1-3 but if mickey mouse was our coach we would't be 1-3 either.

I wouldn't be so sure about that. Mickey has a good mind for Xs and Os, but he knows next to nothing about recruiting or player development.

UT doesn't need a coach who is trying for the first time in school history to "get to a bowl." They need a coach who has won a title or played for the title. Enough of this on the job training stuff.
