We've Been Down This Road Before.

Hatvol is entitled to his opinion. It just so happens that he enjoys getting a rise out of people while arguing those opinions; come on, we know the type. What is funny is that we have nearly 300 posts in this tired thread and I posted an excellent and informative thread (my very first VN thread, as a matter of fact, thank you very much) and only got 9 FREAKING REPLIES! Ahum, the point is that you people enjoy the smack or you wouldn't still be here. You would be reading my fantabulous post. Which I have attached for your viewing pleasure. http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/93414-la-tech-fans-talking-about-kiffin.html
MY theory is that the link to a La Tech message board probably put a lot of the people that read that thread into a coma.

No way man. That thread offered a glimpse into the past from the perspective of a group of people who didn't know what was about to hit them. It's like the moment before a tsunami wave. BAM!!! we're taking your coach biaches! Alas, I wouldn't expect everyone to appreciate the genius that is Maynard76.

It was kind of sad to read. You're right. They had no inkling what was about to happen.

Perhaps Hat is just po'd because Dooley was able to get out of the legal profession - something Hat has always wanted to do but was never able to do.

This isn't the first time we've hired an errand boy for a championship winning Alabama coach. Bill Battle came to Knoxville after serving his apprenticeship under Bear Bryant. Look how well that turned out. On the bright side, at least Doofus never coached in Tuscaloosa.

Were have you been , what's the scoop on this GUY?? I have this blackhole type feeling.....But I guess his staff will tell us a lot about who he is.......Time for ,Hammy is running out!

So you're giving the guy a break for decisions he made about the way he was going to coach? A great coach will hire great assistants and take the blame for the course of the program. he will recruit his butt off and win.

Just pointing out that there are a lot of factors in play and involved. Auburn last year is a perfect example. Dooley is far superior to Chiz but it will also depend upon what Dooley and Hamilton come up with on staffing and recruiting. Dooley wanted to keep Kippy but did not even get to talk to him so the jury is still out regarding the staff. I will tell you that I think that he will do fine on the field, his success or failure will be driven off of how successful he and his staff are at recruiting.

This "HAT" guy is bitter about something. He is the type to ignore and he will go away. He is all about getting an audience one way or another.
I have never seen a positive post by "HAT".

Your replying to one now! Maybe you would

Not that he needs me to take up for him, but he makes plenty of positive posts. Check the basketball section today. He just calls it like he sees it. Calling it like you see it is a great way to come across as negative while describing UT football over the last few years.

So you get Hat, wow
That's it he just calls it LIKE HE SEES IT! Nothing wrong with that be cause Honesty is the best way to communicate, ok but agreeing with everyone well ---then follow them off the bridge!

What an incredibly self righteous individual you are Hat. How can you be sure enough about someone that you can rip them apart like you have in this thread? There is no way you could possibly know the outcome of this coaching decision, but yet you act as if you can. You have no integrity, and saying it's your opinion doesn't make it right.

I guess Auburn, LSU, and Boise State are cupcakes Atticus.

Well since you went there, Aubrun and LSU are in the SEC. Both have History and Tradition and the Saturday afternoon pagentrey that comes from southren college football................hence forth Boise State has a blue turf Gimick andis lucky to sucker 2 to 3, 4 stars players that were passed over by real confrences to play for them and have lucked their way into some big bowl games....... and there head coach is a Laughable guy that has no buisness playing in the big boy leagues.

Well, I have two options here.

A) Complain about the current hire, and call him names until he leaves.

B) Get behind him and hope he works out.

I prefer option B, because I don't want to be *****ing for the next year or two. It's not worth my time. I have better and more important things to focus on in my life.

Actually Hatvol, that turned out to be not so bad! Battle won 39 games his first four years, and had a 7 year record of 59-22, with a bowl record of 4-1. True, he did not win a conference championship, but did finish in the top 10 twice and the top 20 5 times. More parity now for sure. . .but I'm sure 90% of us would take that record for the next four years!

I for one, think the Dooley hire is just fine, considering the timing the Vols were dealt with. He comes from a great football pedigree (albeit a bitter rival!), has proven to the inner circles that he is a very good recruiter, has had at least some experience in the SEC, and a law degree certainly can't help in his self proclaimed goal of running a dignified and clean program, while at the same time respecting and continuing the great traditions of Tennessee football. I say give Dooley a chance and get behind him. You can bet he realizes the difficult place Tennessee was in regarding his hire. . .I'm all for him! :eek:k:

[edgy, divisive and somewhat vitriolic response ended with an admittedly laughable insult towards the new hire]

I thought of that also, and thought it would be a good alternative. Either way this year's recruiting class would have been wrecked.

Yes, it would have. Instead, we have taken the gamble of wrecking a full coaching tenure rather than a year.

It's true. Hatvol got me a $10,000 settlement for my Carpel Tunnel."Justice is our right, and hatvol96 demands it!" :)

At one time in my life I lived in the same complex as Bart Durham. Strange days.

No offense, but you supported the Kiffen hire and we all see how that turned out as well. Hamilton needs to be fired for all this mess, but give Dooley a chance before you start trying to run him out of town.

Why are you so certain that the controlling factor in La Tech's struggles in the WAC was the coaching ability of Derek Dooley?

For everyone touting the difficulty of winning at La Tech as the reason for Dooley's record, have you checked their record before he arrived?

His predecessor went 16-20 over his last three seasons and 43-52 in his 8 year career. I don't see a lot of improvement with Dooley's arrival.

Would that have made Jack Bicknell, Jr. a good hire?

So Hat, you don't like BP, PS, and now DD?!? I'm convinced you are out to get the AD job. Watch out Hammy, Hats "interested".
Haha
Hatvol69- Number 38 in your program, number 1 in your heart.

I thought of LaRussa when we hired Dooley. Guys like that blow my mind. I never get what makes someone go through law school, passing the bar and practicing law to "Hey, I think I'll go be a coach."

like Mike Leach

I'm glad that you said this. I thought this since the moment I heard Kiffin accepted the job. If anyone was to blame for Kiffin leaving, it was the Seahawks for firing Mora and going with Carroll. Kiffin can't be blamed for being offered the job of head coach at USC.

This is actually the truth, Mora had Coach Reeves team in the ATL, and got fired after 3 season, because Washington was this blabber mouths dream job...........Did someone tell Sarkesian this.......... Now Holmgren does him a favor and the Blabber mouth shifts him to get the head job and then was to blind to look around and relize he had an owner with more money but less talent than he inherited in the ATL...BINGO lose and they FIRE you Faster when they ARE BILLIONARES! so yes MORA is the Bafoon to blame!

I get the fact Hate "calls it like he see's it", doesn't everybody? Opinions are like...well you know...everybody has one. His opinion just has a more negative slant on it. Then he broadcasts this negative slant with a holier than thou attitude(because 40,000 posts means something!) which really turns a lot of people off. I could get in to the pyschology of why people are generally like this but why bring up that in a football forum?

I'd like to see Hat and all of his "followers" in a room discussing this hire. A bunch of sad saps agreeing with each other and bemoaning their awful athletic director. While they pat each other on the back and talk about their sense of entitlement as Tennessee fans.

Unless Hat or anyone else who is vehemently against this hire is on the Board of Trustee's(hah!), you'll just have to ride this out like the rest of us.

I understand Hats concerns about Dooley, but really naming Kippy as an interim is not a viable solution. I have no idea what this recruiting class is going to turn out like, but I am certain that it will be better than having an 'interim' coach try to recruit and actually assemble a staff.

You either give Kippy the keys to the kingdom with a 3-5 year deal or you go find someone willing to take a chance on this mess like Hamilton did.
