We've Been Down This Road Before.

It must really suck being so negative all the time. Heck I've got 19 hours of darkness a day up here right now and I'm not that negative.

This isn't the first time we've hired an errand boy for a championship winning Alabama coach. Bill Battle came to Knoxville after serving his apprenticeship under Bear Bryant. Look how well that turned out. On the bright side, at least Doofus never coached in Tuscaloosa.

congrats, you have an orange highlighted username, that doesn't mean s.... CDD is our man, and he can recruit for the vols and volnation, CLK aka traitor can recruit for whoever...we'll take whoever wants to be a vol.

If our basketball program keeps playing the way they are, and Dooley succeeds ... hat might off himself, poor fella.

Bill Battle was 59-22-2 ... a record that many would take today. He is also a billionaire ... something you will never achieve. If it weren't for Johnny Majors winning at Pitt, he might have been coach for many more years. You have little touch with reality and no clue about the history. You must be ready for puberty. If so, your post count will slow down as you have to learn to type with one hand.

Yeah, Battle was a rousing success. That would explain why people were sending moving vans to his house at the end of his tenure. Billionaire? Yeah, collegiate licensing produces wealth like Microsoft. That was good for a laugh. I bet Paul Allen fears Bumbling Bill will be passing him in the next Forbes 500.

If ignorance is bliss you must be very happy.

Collegiate licensing is almost an afterthought ... just like you are. He made a fortune in aluminum windows in Selma AL. I played for him and for Dickey. It is a little different from googling and easports football. Go visit your chatroom girlfriend and type with one hand again.

So IF Dooley wins an SEC Championship somewhere down the road I take it you won't be celebrating with the rest of us?

And there it is! No he won't. With all the talent they have accumulated, he'll have no excuses, they'll get worse every year. He is no football coach. His wife will divorce him, his kids will abandon him, his dad will keep trying to save him, Garrett will get fired on and on and on.
This is insane. Kiffin improved ut this year, and will do great at USC-even if they are on probation. College football is largely about recruiting...and this guy understands that. His wife may very well divorce him, and he will be in the same boat as 50% of the other marriages out there...the same boat that tiger woods is about to sail to the all time majors record

I believe that Battle is certainly a multi millionaire if he is not a billionaire. I think that his failure was largely a result of the assistants that he hired and his self imposed recruiting requirements. ( I think he hired a buddy that only had high school coaching experience as DC and would not recruit anyone with long hair, facial hair, etc. His recruiting was largely in-state with perhaps 60% coming from the state of Tenn where Dickey and staff had recruited more regionally) If I recall we also plucked him off of the staff at the University of Tennessee not Alabama so no I have not seen this all before nor has anyone else.

So you're giving the guy a break for decisions he made about the way he was going to coach? A great coach will hire great assistants and take the blame for the course of the program. he will recruit his butt off and win.

I do not understand all of this Dooley slobber. The guy is a mediocre coach. We fired Fulmer for being a mediocre coach. Kiffin was a great hire because the upside was so stinking high. Where is the upside with DD? Even if he is more successful here than he was at la tech, we are still looking at 3rd in the east...and I personally do not have much hope of improving past that. This recruiting class was not saved by hiring this guy off the street. If you are not going to make a big splash, then wait until after nsd and bring in the big hire for the future. This short term vision by Hamilton is driving me nuts.

Hatvol is entitled to his opinion. It just so happens that he enjoys getting a rise out of people while arguing those opinions; come on, we know the type. What is funny is that we have nearly 300 posts in this tired thread and I posted an excellent and informative thread (my very first VN thread, as a matter of fact, thank you very much) and only got 9 FREAKING REPLIES! Ahum, the point is that you people enjoy the smack or you wouldn't still be here. You would be reading my fantabulous post. Which I have attached for your viewing pleasure. http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/93414-la-tech-fans-talking-about-kiffin.html

I still don't know enough about Dooley to make a overall assessment so I am just going to hold off, but here are my few assessments -

1. Pro - He understands SEC football and everything that surrounds it.
2. Pro - He seems to have the big picture in mind and will lay down a vision for the program down to the most trivial detail.
3. Pro - Every sensible person outside of TN (note - I don't consider most ESPN radio personalities sensible), seem to like this hire.
4. Uncertain - His staff.
5. Uncertain - I have no clue what he's like preparing his team for games and calling the shots on gameday.
6. Con - Everytime I see him I can't help but get the thought that this guy is Dave Clawson meets Buzz Peterson.

Other than his relationship with O and Monte, what exactly was Kif'n's "upside"?
