They ran a search for weeks and hired Kiffin. He never should've been hired based, if on nothing else, his former employers warning. They thought a guy, that's hired and fired more coaches than anyone I can think of, was crazy. I don't blame Kiffin for leaving...I'm so glad he's gone. The whole lot, Daddy and O too! I wish Kippy and Gran were still around in some capacity. Yeah, they gave us Bryce, Janzen,etc... but they disgraced our reputation.

Why are you so certain that the controlling factor in La Tech's struggles in the WAC was the coaching ability of Derek Dooley?

FWIW (and I know it ain't much) DD was 2-1 against Utah State.

Al Davis fired Mike Shanahan, ran Jon Gruden out of town, and hired Joe Bugel, Bill Callhan, and Mike White. Yeah, I'd be taking his advice.

The WAC has two good programs, Boise and Fresno. Hawaii has its moments. The rest of that league is utter filth. If you are three years into a tenure in that conference and are posting a 4-8, I don't want to hear excuses. You aren't very good. Period.

Yes, lol, but he didn't call a press conference and call any of them liars! He didn't air ALL the dirty laundry. He didn't send a letter to the next employer saying Kiffin would rip the program apart, which is what he did.

Kiffin was a head coach with an awful record, no people skills(his own brother said he's a jerk, and at the time said maybe being with Carrol and at UT with his dad will/has helped!) 2 searches, 2 coaches with losing records and an AD who feels like he should have a say in the staff.

Sooooooooo, you would call Mr. Dooley a doofus and Mike Hamilton a good judge of character? The guy that hired Pearl who you dislike going back many years.The guy that brought in Kiffin and okayed Ed O? The man who gave a guy from LaTech a 2 Mil. raise?

No I get that, I do. Despite overwhelming evidence that they are liars and cheaters...win at all cost. Tell the parents whatever, just get the best players...then... we can turn tail and run after keeping none of the promises. We'll see what kind of staff and how many second chances these guys get.

In five years, Lane Kiffin will either be winning big at SC or back in the NFL. Kid Gynomite, on the other hand, will be starting his first season at Troy. Maybe he can get the AD gig there, too.

And there it is! No he won't. With all the talent they have accumulated, he'll have no excuses, they'll get worse every year. He is no football coach. His wife will divorce him, his kids will abandon him, his dad will keep trying to save him, Garrett will get fired on and on and on.

Seriously, you guys aren't getting hat. Facts are only relevant when they serve the purpose for his argument. He likes Kiffin, so his personal foibles aren't part of the conversation. He hates Pearl, so infidelity and "being a snake" are constant themes. Dooley being an, apparent, stand up guy doesn't fit the picture he wants to paint, so the things we criticize Kiffin for, integrity and so forth, again become irrelevant. Hat is the Kaiser Wilhelm, Real Politik poster of the board.

Did anyone bother to notice that he called Dooley an "errand boy" for Saban, but when Kiffin was noted as the same for Carroll, the argument was ignored? He picks and chooses his arguments based upon initial impressions and refuses to budge, creating new criteria as time goes along in order to reinforce his original position.

Just because he serves up his position with authority doesn't actually make him an authority on the subject. Don't get intimidated by the smarmy insults either. He's not Yoda, despite what his "tell it like it is" groupies think.

As for Dooley, I wasn't exactly enamoured with the choice, but have grown a little more optimistic as I've learned more about the guy. I'll reserve judgment until I see the product he puts together here. I certainly won't make an idiot of myself and call him "doofus" or whatever before the guy has even set up a practice or visited a recruit at UT coach.
