We've Been Down This Road Before.

WKU has been D-I for 30+ years.

They've been D-IA/FBS for two years. Big difference between FCS and D-II.
They were I-AA in football. I couldn't give a damn about the alphabet soup designations the idiots at the 'AA are trying to sell now.

As a fellow member of the profession, you have to at least admit Dooley gave a solid opening argument to the press...
I can't fairly judge his press conference. I tuned him out after the silliness about the Johnny Majors Show and his reference to "britches."

I can't believe this had to be argued...

This has grown so tiring, I can't even read the argument.

Is this one where our new guy beat a WKU team who had more talent or was it that he played a close game against them?

It was actually the argument that the WKU team was in 1-AA, not in Division 2. Apparently when you have as many enemies as Hat, any single error brings the vultures.

One of the most depressing facts about the whole week is that Dooley didn't call us, we had to call him.

Honestly, he must feel like Mike Hamilton is the Ed McMahon of the college athletic world.

I kind of feel the same way, but Dooley is our man, now.

Thanks.

Concerning Dooley versus Battle, I don't see this guy starting out nearly as strong, but the ending will be similar. Since he'll start out a lot slower (2010 is a losing season for CDD and Battle was 11-1 with a Sugar Bowl victory), so I don't think it'll take 7 years this time.

Do you think we can get out of this in 3 seasons?

I think its cued up at utsports.com

Give it a click when you dig your "britches" out of a wad.

Do they have Jerry Green's introductory press conference archived? If I'm going to watch theater of the absurd, I might as well get a double feature.

How droll! The link for that video is broken. They are still looking for Jerry Green's chin.

They may have a link to a production of "Rhinoceros" from the Clarence Brown Theater.

No problem. I'm sure Peterson's is available. With the exception of the references to having been Michael Jordan's butler, it's the same show.

Hell with it...

Just cue up all the press conferences for all the coaches.

They are all absurd.

The proof of this pudding will be in the eating. So why all the vitriol with nothing concrete to judge about Double D's time at UT? Let it play out and put aside your preconceptions. You might actually enjoy yourself.

Oh, I don't know. It might be because I look at the coaches in place at the two programs we have to beat to win anything that matters and wonder what makes anyone think a guy who struggled with Utah State is going to come out on top.

It isin't CDD's fault. He accepted a large raise to coach football. He's now set for life. Seems the anger should be aimed at the AD and the private jet owners and donors who, all around, have proven a lack of judgement not once, but twice in the span of 14 months. Why you'd want these guys to go looking for a new basketball coach is puzziling, if anything they got lucky on that one.

GBO!

Not that I like the guy, but he does have a point there.

How were they wrong 14 months ago? Their inability to see that a school with an infinitely better job would have an opening and pursue Kiffin? If you know anyone who can foresee such improbable circumstances, let me know. I need Wednesday's Powerball numbers.

It wasn't as bad of a decision as people think. Hamilton took a calculated risk. They don't always work out.
Hamilton was wrong by structuring such a weak early termination penalty.

I'm glad that you said this. I thought this since the moment I heard Kiffin accepted the job. If anyone was to blame for Kiffin leaving, it was the Seahawks for firing Mora and going with Carroll. Kiffin can't be blamed for being offered the job of head coach at USC.

Dang I was gonna start my own thread but VolFreak has WISELY put a limit on the newb’s starting threads. I apologize in advance for going off topic or hijacking the original post…

I mention right off this is my first post on the Volnation, Some will stop reading here because after many many months of lurking on this board I’ve learned first timers opinions are not often valued here. No matter how long you have been a volunteer. After this past week I am driven to speak my opinion, god knows there were plenty.

First, I welcome Coach Dooley and support you 100% you are my coach. My reasoning is the team I love hired you so, you get my unconditional support. The only thing I know about you so far is what I have learned from other Volnation members reading their posts and research. The AD thinks you’re the best fit for the job given ( his ) no win situation he was placed in. I do appreciate the position our offer put you in, to walk away from the team you built and your incoming recruits.( As Vol fans we know how that feels )

To my fellow Vol fans when did we become the school of whiners ?? Coach Dooley said it in his press conference… I do feel sorry for the recruits who were mislead, but life gets harder than this,, it’s a life lesson. Lane Kiffin had me excited about the future at UT as he did many of you. I bleed orange but life goes on. The sky is not falling it just appears that way. There are big wins in our future and heartbreaking losses just like life. This is a revelation to NO one but…

Where did our sense of entitlement we feel come from ? Our last national Championship was 12 + years ago. Many fans have assumed and acted like we could just buy any big name coach of our choosing to save our recruit class. Is our check book and lust so big it should override any morale obligations the coaching candidates had to their program they built and their incoming recruits. We demand that you don’t screw us over and leave until we get tired of you . However we as fans reserve the right to complain and criticize before you ever loose a single game.

In five years I personally would be very proud to be a Vol Fan who’s team went 7-4 and wasn’t the highlight in the latest police lineup. That’s the true negative for this program, hiring an unknown coach
Is a huge risk...but it’s not a felony.

How about this approach …recruit 3-4 star Student-Athletes who want to play first and foremost for the real and only UT. If you are exceptionally talented the NFL knows where Knoxville is. Instead of trying to buy a championship with coaching we earn it with hard work and desire .Like 99% of you, what little I have in life I worked for. Maybe we just out play the other teams with preparation and effort ? Anyone remember the 86 Sugar Bowl and the NFL roster we crushed. How about this year …we beat the National Champions up and down the field, yeah we lost the game but you know you were proud of OUR PLAYERS.

Hey the last thing I want to sound like is a saint that, is above arm chair quarterbacking and talking football. Some of us got whipped into an embarrassing frenzy this week. ( GUILTY, I was here 22 hours Wednesday myself ) The entire college football world watched this board this week was this the message as Vol fans we wanted to send out ??

Is Dooley the right coach ??? Is Hamilton an idiot or genius, my crystal ball is broke I DON”T KNOW

My one and only point is simple and it is this… We ask our coaches and 18-20 yr old men to touch that sign as they leave the locker room. Before they battle the best athletes in the country and risk injury. In front of a live TV audience an 100,000 fans . We make them swear and promise.

I WILL GIVE MY ALL FOR TENNESSEE TODAY.

Do we as fans get off just buying a ticket … Or… should we as fans be as loyal to our team as we demand our coaches and players to be.

VOL FOR LIFE
