We've Been Down This Road Before.

Those guys had to try and beat the Michigans and Clemsons of the world with limited resources. Kid Gynomite was competing with Utah State, New Mexico State, San Jose State, Idaho, et al.

How much better do you think his situation was than there's was? He's coaching a team that is largely ignored in the state(McNeese has a larger fanbase). Do to lack of resources, they are perennially on the road at least twice a year against an out of conference head knocker. And to top all of those off, they have to battle it out for every in-state recruit they get.

I bet both of those guys would say Tennessee should have given Kippy Brown a shot.

As would most people but it didn't work out like it should have had.

Utah State and New Mexico State are the two worst programs in Division I.

I thought of LaRussa when we hired Dooley. Guys like that blow my mind. I never get what makes someone go through law school, passing the bar and practicing law to "Hey, I think I'll go be a coach."

Right about now Dooley could give you a couple million reasons!

Same here Beecher. All we can do now is see what Dooley can do.I'm not going to bash him until he gives me good reason.Still, I think we should have went with Kippy. It seems like he didn't get a fair shot, and I have a feeling when the dust settles the media is going to have something to say about it...and rightfully so if this is the case.

He is the coach now, of the team I pull for. I hope he fills out his staff well, and he is successful here.

I would have liked to had Kippy stay. If they had given him the job, I would have been fine with it.

Who were his other five losses to this season?

That is irrelevant to your initial argument, you only mentioned two teams. He coached against teams with equivalent talent to Clemson and Michigan; In his coaching tenure there he has coached against California, Mississippi, LSU, Boise ST, Auburn, Mississippi State, Kansas, and a decent 2007 Hawaii team. During the past year seven of the eight losses were to teams that went to bowl games and LA Tech lost by a combined 18 points to Boise and LSU, they even had a half-time lead at one point, all while being severely undermanned. They lost to Fresno, Idaho, and Utah State by a combined 5 points. Not to mention the program has only won two bowl games in their entire history.

WKY still holds that ranking :good!:

Hat, all i'm saying is, let's get him here and supply him with all of the facilities and support that every other coach has gotten while on The Hill. Then, after a few years, we can judge him on the actual coaching job that matters to us.

That's one year. Check out the five or ten year numbers on those two.

Can't imagine that both of those teams are worse than WKU..... I'm wondering how this poll arrived at it's #'s.... Seems like UT couldn't possibly be the #20 team in the country power-wise.... Maybe SOS figures heavily into the #'s but I guess it's like Benjamin Disraeli said.... "There's 3 kinds of lies.... Lies, damn lies and statistics...."

I've tried to justify this thing, but I just looked at UTsports.com and our coach is Derek freaking Dooley... I have zero hope at this point.

It's totally relevant. Green and Caldwell were in conferences where they played legitimate D-I teams most every week. Dooley was in a league where half the teams are utter trash and he still sucked. That's the point.

Western Kentucky has been in Division I for all of two years.

This isn't the first time we've hired an errand boy for a championship winning Alabama coach. Bill Battle came to Knoxville after serving his apprenticeship under Bear Bryant. Look how well that turned out. On the bright side, at least Doofus never coached in Tuscaloosa.

You're completely clueless about Dooley if you think he was an errand boy

....and neither did Bill Battle. He played for Bama, was an assistant at Army, then Tennessee before becoming UT head coach at age 28. Dooley is 41 and with far more experience. No comparison whatsoever.

Ridiculous thread. Hat is just being Hat. Acting like a pretentious douche to try and get people upset. Not sure why it continues to work?

On top of that, he just spews garbage without even researching to find out if it is true or not.

The teams are trash, with the exception of Boise, including LT. Coaching trash to eight wins is pretty good work in any year. In the other two, he seems to have coached trash into being competitive in the lion's share of his WAC games, and even put a scare into a big team or two.

He's not the big name, and he is not the obvious choice. Whoopity doo. Who did you think we would get after the rogering we received from Kiff? You'd rather have Kippy Brown? Seriously?

Seriously? The one from the Texans?

Seriously?

I think the point of this thread is to run down Coach Dooley for s--ts and giggles, to claim that he will fail miserably, and to entertain us all again with your copious evidence that Mike Hamilton is incompetent. Yep, the buyout should have been bigger in year 1, but who could have reasonably forseen Pete Carroll leaving USC for a league in which he failed so miserably?

Give it a rest, and let the situation breathe. I can't see the future here any more than you. As a fellow member of the profession, you have to at least admit Dooley gave a solid opening argument to the press...

Give him a chance to get through some of the evidence phase before you give license to your prejudice.

One of the most depressing facts about the whole week is that Dooley didn't call us, we had to call him.

Honestly, he must feel like Mike Hamilton is the Ed McMahon of the college athletic world.

Have you considered the possible outcomes of having a minority interim coach? Kippy winning 9 games and being given the job would be the only positive outcome of the many possible ones.

kippy as interim sounds like a possible alternative.

maybe it was offered, but with a seahawks offer also in hand, kippy turned it down i.e. he wouldn't agree to anything short of a multiyear contract.

point being there is a lot of info we are not privy to, and things may not be as simple as they seem on the surface.

also have to wonder why at age 55 kippy has never had a HC job. it's easy to shoot holes in any candidate.
