We've Been Down This Road Before.

Aside from Dooley actually having Head Coaching experience, never having actually coached at Alabama and the Bill Battle hire being about 40 years ago, Hat has made an excellent analogy.
Excuse me if I don't consider slopping around for three years in the WAC and not being good enough to play in the SEC as significant differences between Kid Gynomite and Battle.

Wittingham...Edsall...Peterson...Patterson...Lovie Smith (who Chicago is looking to get out of their buyout..even though he's had a good string of success there prior to this year)...

Im sure theres an athletic department out there somewhere that could use your brilliant insight. In fact I hear LA tech is in the market for someone with your obvious skills in talent evaluation and negotiation skills.

And tell me, short of taking a family member as a hostage, how would you have gotten several of those candidates (Lovie and Wittingham) here?

Not at all. I think very highly of Tony LaRussa.
I thought of LaRussa when we hired Dooley. Guys like that blow my mind. I never get what makes someone go through law school, passing the bar and practicing law to "Hey, I think I'll go be a coach."

To negotiate their own contracts? I kid, I kid...

This isn't the first time we've hired an errand boy for a championship winning Alabama coach. Bill Battle came to Knoxville after serving his apprenticeship under Bear Bryant. Look how well that turned out. On the bright side, at least Doofus never coached in Tuscaloosa.

Wow, reaching here a little. I think Battle actually was Doug Dickey's errand boy in Knoxville before becoming the head coach. He played for Bear, but I didn't think he coached under him. It really doesn't matter either way, it was 40 years ago.

Oh, there are plenty of days I wish I had made that choice.

Give the guy a freakin' chance.

Just tell me you'll be more open to his success than you are to Pearl's Hat. I'm not enamored with the hire myself but he's the man now and he's going to get my support. I go to the University of Tennessee, I love the University of Tennessee, and I'm going to do my damnedest to convince myself he's the next big thing in coaching. It's the fannish thing to do.

I think it's called "pleasing your parents" and then realizing you should do what you love.

I think we can survive Dooley's tenure, even if he's a bad coach. What I'm really afraid of is Fulmer getting the AD position if Hamilton gets fired over this. That would effectively kill the program.

Yeah, but thinking it and doing it are light years apart.
Not if you are going to start where guys like Kid Gynomite, LaRussa, or Quin Snyder did on the coaching ladder. It's not like any of those guys left law to wash uniforms and drive the bus at the high school level.

You should know that we'll survive Dooley's tenure, good or bad. I agree with you, hiring Fulmer as AD would destroy UT football forever.

This "HAT" guy is bitter about something. He is the type to ignore and he will go away. He is all about getting an audience one way or another.
I have never seen a positive post by "HAT".

I don't think that's anything but a pipe dream floated by some people who can't let go of the past.
It doesn't even have to be Fulmer. It could be anyone who puts tradition above winning and wants to keep it all in the family. Hamilton has made some decent hires.

The Kiffin hire turned out to be ugly, but we were making strides in the right direction. I'm afraid this incident will scare whoever is in power next and prevent them from making a good hire, just to play it safe.

Not that he needs me to take up for him, but he makes plenty of positive posts. Check the basketball section today. He just calls it like he sees it. Calling it like you see it is a great way to come across as negative while describing UT football over the last few years.

Yes, considering he's already brought it to the brink of destruction.

That's the only reason I'm not so quick to dump the chump just yet, because I know who has his eye on the gig.
