Wes Welker UT Staff?

We are all great Peyton fans, know what a great guy and player he has been, and yet most of us are realistic enough to know that his perfectionist qualities do not often translate to being a great coach. Yet many here are very quick to jump on the Welker bandwagon without knowing much about him as a person. Interesting.

This has to be for a QC or analyst position. We don't have any positions open for him now (he won't be OC and if we promote Z he can't coach QBs). If we're interviewing for WR coach then I assume Z is already gone.

The NCAA is expected allow coaching staffs to add an additional assistant coach this year.

If he was directed here by Peyton then I would trust Peyton's judgement of what type person Wes is and his ability to add something to our coaching staff. I think only positives could come from this hire if it's made.

What are ya'll talking about??

Has Welker EVER coached? Has he EVER recuited??

Ya'll don't know ****.

He could be the next Saban or the next Dooley. WHO KNOWS!

Some of ya'll are ridiculous.

IMO... there is NO WAY CBJ is dumb enough to risk a coaching spot on Welker.
QC guy... sure.

Wes Welker could come coach at UT?

Who's the better physics teacher? A person who was trained to be a teacher and has a limited understanding of physics? Or a world renowned physicist who is taking his first teaching gig. Not a given that the world renowned physicist will get better results, but the limiting factor is teaching skills, not knowledge of physics. Therefore, the potential advantage is significantly higher for the physicist.

Z knows how to teach, but is limited by his knowledge of the position. Welker knows how to be dominant at the position at the highest level and make millions of dollars. Much higher ceiling.

This might be a stupid question but are QC coaches allowed to recruit?

Assuming when you say "recruit", you are referring to in home visits? I don't think they can, but I am not sure. There is alot more to recruiting, thsn just in home visits. I am not all that knowlegable on NCAA rules/policies relative to recruiting. NCAA is playing catch up on all the "non-coaching" positions being used at colleges now.

Honestly the WRs weren't bad this year at all. They were finally healthy and took a big step forward. Josh malone had an all sec type of year, Jennings is a playing his 2nd year of receiver ever and is playing great, there was promising development of our freshman wideouts. I don't know why everyone wants Azzani gone. Sure they underperformed the last couple years before this year, but they were also decimated with injuries.

Awesome news!!!! One thing is for sure, they would be taught how to catch and how to play smart.

Easy killer

I'm hoping we do hire him for a QC position. He can get his feet wet and learn the ins and outs of coaching. If and when Azzani moves on, he can slide into the WR coach role. I think he could be a good coach. He played under arguably the greatest coach of all time and with two of the greatest quarterbacks of all time. He knows the game and he knows his position. I think he would be an exceptional recruiter too.

Wow! We certainly don't want anybody that may have done anything wrong in their past. Saints only for UT, I say. What's Jesus doing these days? He would be the only candidate. The positive, I bet he could coach all positions and be coordinator at the same time. Someone with better connections than me, make it happen.

If Jesus were our coach, our fan base would turn on him and call for him to be fired daily. Just think of the headlines and the thread titles...

Dobbs also improved a little as a passer.

You definitely take a chance on a guy like Wes Welker. Name recognition and seems like his personality is built for recruiting.
