Were we wrong? I thought it was the Haslam’s fault.

A blind squirrel finds an acorn every now and then. Look how many coaches he's been through before now.
This is not the case of a lucky decision. You don’t stumble into an NFL playoff run. It’s much harder than simply choosing a HC.

The Brown’s (Haslam’s team) are stomping the living crap out of Pittsburgh. No question, they have front officed this team from the depths of the sewer to legitimacy.

Looking back, There is little doubt in my mind that Schiano would have been an immensely better choice than Pruitt. Not saying he would have been a great hire, but I think the powers that be may have known we weren’t going to get any better.
You do understand it's taken Haslam about 20 coaches to get here right

Browns are 45-94 since Little Jimmy took ownership nine years ago, including their first playoff game last night, and have had 16 first round picks including Johnny Manziel. NFL business model calls for each team to be 8-8, but here’s Little Jimmy’s Browns at 45-94. No Thanks.

And Schiano was the Assistant Head Coach at OSU when Urban was suspended. During suspension, OSU named a position coach as Interim Head Coach instead of their Assistant Head Coach Schiano. OSU got it right on that deal. Schiano’s good for Rutgers. We need better!

How do you feel about Jeff Fisher lol
Compared to some of the other names people keep floating around, I’d take him. He’s not at the top of my list, but I’d definitely take him over Marrone or Napier. Former is pretty much a failed coach. The latter is Dooley 2.0.

Ok, that’s fair, and honest, but, if you had heard about an alleged illegal act at your workplace would you feel an obligation to report it to your boss? And thanks for answering the question, we all know it wasn’t his record at Rutgers that people were up in arms about.

People were up in arms because he wasn't Jon Gruden. Vol fans wanted a "big name" coach. Most Vol fans had no idea who GS was. I still believe that if UT rolled out Pruitt that same day there would've been a similar reaction.

I’ve never understood the Haslam hate. If it weren’t for them, and their donations, we wouldn’t have anywhere near the facilities we do. And I’ve only met Jimmy a couple times (never met Bill), but Big Jim Haslam is one of the nicest people I’ve ever met.

And yet, people on here slam them constantly. Just don’t get it.
Slinging insults, personal attacks & innuendo just gives some people their jollies.

Schiano was there for two years. He might have heard rumors. Is that knowing? I’ve heard many rumors about many people and I never once reported one of the many terrible things people have told me about other people to the police. I do think Paterno had knowledge. Unfortunately.

That's a good point regarding Schiano. Unfortunately, that scandal was so horrible and so unspeakable, I didn't want ANYONE coaching at Tennessee that was even remotely associated with that program while that **** was going on up there, directly or indirectly. Every time his name would've been said, I would be thinking about it. Every time I saw him on our sidelines, I would be thinking about it. I didn't want anyone representing our football program that had even a microcosm of that stench! Now, is that completely unfair to someone like Schiano who may or may not have known anything about it? Yeah, maybe it was. However that's just the "collateral damage" that accumulates over situations like that. If he truly had no knowledge of what was happening and was innocent, it's unfortunate for the guy. But in hindsight do I regret what happened on "Schiano Sunday"? Not for a single moment! If he truly is innocent, I wish him all the best and hope he has a long and successful career but I don't want it to be here.

I would say they didn't hire CJP to give english lessons, don't judge a book by it's cover.
We shouldn't but we often do. I remember reading an article a few years ago about Saban where they interviewed a recruit's mother. She said with how nice looking he was, how sincere he was, and how well spoken he was; she was sold in 2 minutes that she wanted him to be her son's coach.

That’s a good point. I think that some people just hated his record and that was disingenuous.

Honest question, can I get an honest answer, do you really think that Schiano didn’t know anything about the Sandusky sexual assaults? Do you think Paterno did?

Hard to imagine what McQueary's motivation would have been to make up a story that Schiano had told him he saw something.

McQueary said that under oath. My instinct is to believe Shciano saw something and McQueary was just passing it along to the grand jury. He said, he said, so there's no way of knowing.

Yes, we need better. But we didn’t get better. I’d say Schiano is better than Dooley, Jones, and Pruitt.

No worries
Rutgers fan page and campus is right up the road. Go on up there and tell him how great he could have been

True, but do you also think there would be gnashing of teeth if he didn't implode Tampa Bay and was widely seen as top level coach?

No, he wasn’t the top choice. Mullen was, but UF job opened and that was that. Pretty sure there were overtures toward several other names, but Schiano was a guy they knew they had. In hindsight, it was probably the best they could do.
You’re right. Forgot about Mullen.

The allegations against Schiano are kinda dubious. We believed those allegations since we didnt think he was good enough to be a preferred choice. If he was a great coach, we woulda claimed it was hearsay.

Paterno obviously knew. What did PSU in (from NCAA perspective) wasnt the actions of Sandusky but losing internal control over the coverup ..

McQueary’s motivation all along was the 7 figure defamation lawsuit which required he tie as many people at Penn State as possible. “I can’t remember if it was that night or the next morning but Greg said he saw something...”

Schiano said he never saw anything to report and would have reported if he had. I tend to believe him over the guy that got paid $7 million.

If we are being honest though; Tennessee fans rioting more had to do with not getting a big name football coach than actual understanding of what happened at Penn State.

Um, a first time head coach in the NFL getting into the playoffs is lucky look at all the other hires Haslam has made since being the owner of the Browns. I wouldn't call him the next greatest coach yet. I would reserve to see how he does consistently before I call Haslam a genius.

Come on man. The guy was ahead coach for 10 years and has coached for some very good teams. Hell, he was Urban Meyers choice and that guy knows coaching. What he did at Rutgers was pretty damn good. The mistake he made was not parlaying early success into another job after 2006 when he took them to 11-2. If you take his last seven seasons he was 56-33. He was a hot commodity but was too loyal. He would be light years better than Pruitt.
Just because he was a head coach for 10 years don't mean he can win in the SEC. He wasn't winning at Rutgers so what would make this different. He is one of the guys who are proably a better coordinator than a HC. IDK why some guys can't make the transition but they can't and I believe He and Pruitt are those types of guys.

He was winning at Rutgers. I even posted his stats for his last seven years.

Win the SEC? Dude, we suck monkey balls and you are talking about winning the SEC? We aren’t comparing Schiano to Saban. I’m comparing him to Pruitt, because like it or not, that’s who we got after one of the most absurd and embarrassing coaching searches in the history of college football.

This is the level of delusion we are dealing with. I’m saying we’d be better off right now if Schiano had been hired. Period. Get it?
