"Welfare"

I see erroneous posts about "welfare" all the time. Discussing voting and the EC several posters have sated they don't want the city people who are all just on welfare to make decisions for the country.

Well that is just wrong. More people in rural areas receive government assistance or what yall deem "welfare". By percentage and raw numbers rural areas have more people on welfare in America than urban areas.

Personally I don't think someone living in poverty makes their vote any less valid as some of you have suggested. At least know who is on "welfare" when you bring it up.

People on "welfare" most likely are a from a rural area that votes conservative. They probably resemble this family more than any urban welfare queen conservatives have made up.

This is about disability but SNAP (food stamps) use is the same. Pretty much every person on disability also gets SNAP.

How to visualize the growth in disability in the United States? One way is to think of a map. Rural communities, where on average 9.1 percent of working-age people are on disability — nearly twice the urban rate and 40 percent higher than the national average — are in a brighter shade than cities. An even brighter hue then spreads from Appalachia into the Deep South and out into Missouri, where rates are higher yet, places economists have called “disability belts.” The brightest color of all can be found in 102 counties, mostly within these belts, where a Washington Post analysis of federal statistics estimates that, at minimum, about 1 in 6 working-age residents draw disability checks.

I don't want the welfare state, regardless of demographics, making decisions for the country.

Better?

It's funny how quite the OP is now.

I didn't want to be a d@ck in this thread. I googled what he was saying and saw crazy things trying to skew reality on welfare statistics. One of the worst things I saw was a website claiming that SNAP beneficiaries (which I have NOTHING against SNAP) were predominantly White. Ok..I buy that. Their reasoning though went something like this: 75% of White single mothers receive SNAP compared to 69% of African Americans. At first glance it seems legit then you read on and realize they are actually trying to compare welfare by saying White single mothers to all African Americans...wuuuuuuuuuuuut

I actually ventured into those government sites expecting I would have to adjust for per capita to try and prove a point..boy I was wrong. I hope he doesn't go to www.fbi.gov and census.gov on the same day..

I would love a system where if you either don't pay taxes in or you take federal assistance out, you are excluded from casting a vote. I would like this to be implemented in Rural and City areas.

I dont mind SNAP. It helps single mothers. Ain't gonna lie, I'm pretty sure I have created a few of those.

I love how he thinks rural must mean White. Guess he ain't ever been to southern Georgia, Mississippi, South Carolina, etc..

How many housing projects do rural areas subsidize?..............................................

And what are crime rates in these rural welfare ridden areas?.....................................

Oh..and since this is a pathetic attempt to somehow attach welfare to being majority White conservatives by utilizing SNAP and disability lets lump in all welfare and not try and cherry pick our statistics..

Percent of welfare recipients who are white / caucasian 16.8 % 11,405,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are black 39.6 % 26,884,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are Hispanic 21.2 % 14,392,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are Asian or Pacific Islander 18 % 12,220,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are Other / Mixed 4.4 % 2,987,000

I did get busy with family like usual on Saturdays. Not trying to duck you.

I tried to find the numbers you got from the link. I can't find them though. I'm curious to see them.

Oh.. and not to rub salt into the ignorant wound but according to the government information above about 55% of blacks are on welfare compared to 5% of Whites in regards to total population. I rounded up, so 197 million Whites and 48 million blacks (from https://www.census.gov/)...but probably means nothing..

Those are Obama era numbers so who knows if they are legit or not.

edit..math was off. 56% of blacks are on welfare according to the government. Apologies.

And they vote democrat.... at least 99% of them..... does this destroy the point he was trying to fabricate?

Its funny that all the welfare "experts" are quite now that they have been proven wrong.

Appalachia is drawing record breaking people on government assistance because the dumb d!ck democrats shut down the mines and don't give a rat's a$$ what happens to the people of swva.

And I see you say all the time, people can adapt and get new jobs in different fields. Well when is that going to happen? And when are all the young men in the inner cities going to adapt and find a job? Welfare is a means of oppressing people, period and not just black people.

In Orlando it seems half of the new apartment housing going up (and its a TON) is section 8. A few years back they had some sort of section 8 raffle or something downtown..the line was so long you'd think people were waiting to see Obama speak.

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime

Welfare should be a temporary relief for when a person falls on hard times, the disabled (truly disabled), and wounded military or public servants

It should not be given to 3rd and 4th generations of people that live off the government, "Disabled" people who arent disabled, just lazy AF, or mothers who pop out babies like a Henry Ford assembly line

+1

No one should receive welfare. Charity is not the role of government. End of conversation.

who own rental homes or duplexes are the same way. Don't give a crapy about landscaping or maintenance as long as people are sending in their rent checks. I live in a historic area with a lot of big, old homes. Most are single family and very nice but a fair number were turned into duplexes or rentals many years ago--and they are the worst-maintained and worst-looking properties in the area, without fail.

As for welfare, one could argue that some welfare programs need to tighten their requirements, and they need to do a better job of weeding out fraud--this is a longstanding problem with big, government programs. It might also help if America's massive service sector--which employs huge numbers of people-- paid decent wages. There are /many millions/ of Americans who work hard but make no money. Most of the service jobs are CRAP--paying $9 a hour. That's poverty level. You work hard and well and you get a .35 cent pay raise--this is how they operate. UPS pays people $8.50 an hour to unload tractor trailers--and expects one big truck to be unloaded every hour. It's a joke. Modern-day slavery. America has got poor because American businesses don't like paying people. It is shameful.

Every single home in my neighborhood that is rented out is the same way. People don't mow their yards, park in their yards (Caribbean people), and have multi family/multi-generational people in their houses. Sadly its just a few and if we could get rid of them property values would go up even more.

I've been cleaning an apartment for days after evicting a couple. They were undoubtedly 2 of the nastiest living m'fers that I ever had for tenants. I am still working on the stove. I have the bathroom pretty much in order, and most of the kitchen.
