I see erroneous posts about "welfare" all the time. Discussing voting and the EC several posters have sated they don't want the city people who are all just on welfare to make decisions for the country.

Well that is just wrong. More people in rural areas receive government assistance or what yall deem "welfare". By percentage and raw numbers rural areas have more people on welfare in America than urban areas.

Personally I don't think someone living in poverty makes their vote any less valid as some of you have suggested. At least know who is on "welfare" when you bring it up.

People on "welfare" most likely are a from a rural area that votes conservative. They probably resemble this family more than any urban welfare queen conservatives have made up.

This is about disability but SNAP (food stamps) use is the same. Pretty much every person on disability also gets SNAP.

How to visualize the growth in disability in the United States? One way is to think of a map. Rural communities, where on average 9.1 percent of working-age people are on disability — nearly twice the urban rate and 40 percent higher than the national average — are in a brighter shade than cities. An even brighter hue then spreads from Appalachia into the Deep South and out into Missouri, where rates are higher yet, places economists have called “disability belts.” The brightest color of all can be found in 102 counties, mostly within these belts, where a Washington Post analysis of federal statistics estimates that, at minimum, about 1 in 6 working-age residents draw disability checks.

Just giving some of you less informed posters correct info. People keep talking about welfare and they don't want city people to determine the election because they are all on welfare. Well in that case you shouldn't want the rural people to determine it. They are the ones actually on welfare. Just clearing up a major misconception some people hold for some reason.

Keep painting with a broad brush, Tom.

Give a man a fish, you feed him for a day. Teach a man to fish, and you feed him for a lifetime

Welfare should be a temporary relief for when a person falls on hard times, the disabled (truly disabled), and wounded military or public servants

It should not be given to 3rd and 4th generations of people that live off the government, "Disabled" people who arent disabled, just lazy AF, or mothers who pop out babies like a Henry Ford assembly line

I agree with all of this.

True. I don't post much weekends myself. Several have posted in threads very recently though. :dunno:

Also, I don't think anybody would argue that there are a lot of white welfare recipients. It's a simple math problem, there are more white people in the US, so there are going to be more white people on welfare/employed/unemployed, college educated/illiterate, etc.

I would love a system where if you either don't pay taxes in or you take federal assistance out, you are excluded from casting a vote. I would like this to be implemented in Rural and City areas.

Oh..and since this is a pathetic attempt to somehow attach welfare to being majority White conservatives by utilizing SNAP and disability lets lump in all welfare and not try and cherry pick our statistics..

Percent of welfare recipients who are white / caucasian 16.8 % 11,405,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are black 39.6 % 26,884,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are Hispanic 21.2 % 14,392,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are Asian or Pacific Islander 18 % 12,220,000

Percent of welfare recipients who are Other / Mixed 4.4 % 2,987,000

Oh.. and not to rub salt into the ignorant wound but according to the government information above about 55% of blacks are on welfare compared to 5% of Whites in regards to total population. I rounded up, so 197 million Whites and 48 million blacks (from https://www.census.gov/)...but probably means nothing..

Those are Obama era numbers so who knows if they are legit or not.

edit..math was off. 56% of blacks are on welfare according to the government. Apologies.
