"Welfare"

Oh, I see. They still have needs that the EBT doesn't cover, right? Can you buy a hammer with EBT? Pants?

I can see we will go on for days with this, but define needs? Is a hammer a need? I've been poor as **** before and raised a kid for a long time while barely making minimum wage while never going on any Government assistance program. It can be done, but it seems that the definition of "need" has changed dramatically since then. Have you seen the prices of pants on Amazon? Go to Goodwill and buy that **** on the cheap.

and buy your veggies at Aldi

who own rental homes or duplexes are the same way. Don't give a crapy about landscaping or maintenance as long as people are sending in their rent checks. I live in a historic area with a lot of big, old homes. Most are single family and very nice but a fair number were turned into duplexes or rentals many years ago--and they are the worst-maintained and worst-looking properties in the area, without fail.

As for welfare, one could argue that some welfare programs need to tighten their requirements, and they need to do a better job of weeding out fraud--this is a longstanding problem with big, government programs. It might also help if America's massive service sector--which employs huge numbers of people-- paid decent wages. There are /many millions/ of Americans who work hard but make no money. Most of the service jobs are CRAP--paying $9 a hour. That's poverty level. You work hard and well and you get a .35 cent pay raise--this is how they operate. UPS pays people $8.50 an hour to unload tractor trailers--and expects one big truck to be unloaded every hour. It's a joke. Modern-day slavery. America has got poor because American businesses don't like paying people. It is shameful.

The market sets wages based on the amount of people that can do a certain job or talent

You're quibbling over little details when the fact of the matter is Amazon is a responsible place for a welfare recipient to shop, if you do it right. It's not proof that somebody is gaming the system.

I'm against welfare, FTR.

I just disagree that it is a responsible place. I'm of the thinking that if you are on Government assistance, then financially you are in emergency mode. That means, to me anyway, that you have some basic needs that you have to take care of with a majority of those that can be satisfied by buying things used, going to yard sales, just pinching every single penny that you can. Buying jew clothes in Amazon while paying nearly 6 dollars a month just goes against that IMO. It's only 6 dollars a month in membership only, but we are talking about financial situations so poor that you take entitlements from the Government funded by your fellow American. Buying a new pair of pants on Amazon isn't a need IMO, it's a want. JMO

Haven't read through this thread, but I don't care if it's inner city hood or rural trailer park, welfare should be highly regulated and strict. Work should be a requirement and drug tests as well. Plenty of jobs out there. Food stamps should buy the basics.

The people that generally receive government aid… Which is free are also many times The loudest critics of a free program

Welfare shouldn't be an acceptable "career path".

KARM or similar orgs are a good option. I've been down destitute alley. I have never taken a dime of the tax payers money. Pride has a big part of it.

Piss test all that are sucking off of our tit.

You realize that we have become the worlds police force don't you? This is what Trump has been harping on, we have been expected to protect Europe and Asia with them riding our coat tails. They have been spending their money on expanding their economy while we spend money defending the world.
I'm in the screw em camp, defend your own country and we'll defend ours.

Would you rather Russia take the role of 'world police'?

They can't. No country has the deployment capabilities of the USA. None. Russia has a hard time paying fuel bills for their airplanes (I've seen it personally). They have one barely serviceable aircraft carrier.. They have 19 refueling aircraft..The USA has over 500..they aren't going to world police anyone.

What about China! Well..China has 1..1 aircraft capable of performing aerial refueling.

Do you believe that the allies shouldn't have intervened 75 years ago?

WWII is a very complicated issue because the main seeds for WWII were planted in WWI.

I will say that the US had no reason being in Europe in WWII nor did we need to be engaged in an embargo with Japan on the months leading up to Dec 7th, 1941.

As far as the other countries in Europe that had alliances, they needed to work that out amongst themselves.

The US doesn't defend the world. We defend the petro-dollar. It's not charity; it's self interest.

That why energy independence is a must.. we have been in the Middle East for no reason except for oil ...

The US does not want energy independence; we want energy dependence as long as the trade of oil is mandated on the petro-dollar.

If anyone or anything threatens the petro-dollar, the US will act accordingly.

Are you seriously this dense? Let me spell it out for you.

I AM NOT A PROPONENT OF SOCIAL SECURITY! I WISH I HAD ALL THE MONEY SWINDLED FROM ME OVER THE YEARS IN THE FORM OF SOCIAL SECURITY TAXES. I REALIZE I'LL MIST LIKELY RECEIVE WHAT I PAID IN. HOWEVER, SINCE I DID PAY IN, I DAMN WELL EXPECT TO GET SOME OF IT BACK WHEN I RETIRE.

YOU ARE YOUNG SO YOU'LL BE SUPPORTING ME DURING MY RETIREMENT YEARS. THANKS FOR YOUR SERVICE.

He originally directed this post towards me as an example of how wealth is transferred from the poor to the rich. I'm still struggling with that concept of SS.

It's really not that complicated. It applies to about any form of government support to it's citizenry. You are either for this support or you are for letting people suffer the consequences of their actions. He claims that we should allow all drugs to be legal. If all drugs are to be legal then the government should not be required to rehabilitate them, provide for their health care, or give them Narcan when they overdose. They should be able to die in the ditch. Same with SS. If the government abolishes SS then when those that didn't plan for later in life to be able to retire then they either work till they die or die on the street. Those are the choices.
