Hes never been a head coach on any level. Just 10 years ago he was a high school DB coach.
Hes had the pleasure of coaching under great HCs with elite talent his entire career. You could argue that he gained valuable experience under those guys and thats a fair point.
Id argue that its not hard to be a DC when every guy on the roster is a 5* and at Bama the HC is the GOAT. Their next DC will have similar success. Plus every time we get a coach from Bama theyre a bust. UF just had their Bama coach flame out.
At FSU the defense was good but their offense was better. If you remember Auburn wore them out with a transfer DB playing QB, and Winston saved the day with a clutch drive to seal the deal.
If it wasnt for Kirby having an epic year this year most people wouldnt be excited about Pruitt, but now they think he would have similar success.
I would be more on board with him and this staff if he had better coaches for the offense. The defense may be okay, UT has some underutilized talent on that side of the ball that he can work with. Plus Rumph and Sherrer are good coaches.
Offensively is where they really need help, and with him being a defensive guy ideally you would want a proven OC which Helton is not, and he wasnt even an OC. Then he lets his best offensive guy in CRG go and brings in Weinke? Why? What has Weinke done coaching wise? Even if you brought him in for recruiting thats still questionable. His IMG connections arent as great as people think and CRG was a great recruiter. I dont see why all of a sudden (since hes gone) people want to minimize how good he really was.
all fine well and good. now, i would tell you that some of this is at least misinformed.
if you go look at the defensive production before/after Pruitt at both GA and FSU, you might find more improvement than what you've noted here.
if you go look at what Helton was able to do with the passing game and QB's at WKU and at USC, you might find more definitive evidence of what kind of offensive mind he really is, and what kind of productivity he's trying to attain.
and if you go back and look at who was doing a lot of the recruiting at FSU, GA and Bama, you might find that Pruitt was one of the primary guys that brought in a lot of that talent he was fortunate enough to coach. and the ones he wasn't, love the guy. you saw who got the gatorade bath after the NT game, right? it wasn't Saban.
and i think if you read more around this whole message board, you also might find that there's a pretty decent # of people that understand, and recognize, the differences in what Kirby took over at UGA vs what Pruitt is taking over here. so while it's better imo than what CBJ took over, it's not even close to the same as what Kirby took over two years ago.
what it seems like to me, is that you've made your mind up, and you're not interested in seeing/reading/hearing anything that may be contrary to what you've already decided to think, regardless of the origin of that contrary information.
so, don't take my word for it...i'd tell you to go find out for yourself...that's what i did.
