Weinke is in?

Pruitt has had a while to evaluate CRG.
Weinke was on staff with Pruitt at Bama last year and he must have seen something he liked.

I will say that CRG likely didn't see this coming. I spoke to him just a few days ago.

i don't know your relationship with the guy, so short of me calling BS, i'll just ask if his career path was a topic of conversation or what? doesn't seem like a topic that would come up in a passing conversation, unsolicited.

cause every report that has had anything to say about it, has spoke of there being some rumblings internally that this could be a possible outcome after NSD.

Great joke and nice deflection from what I’m saying.

The fact is that if this staff were at UF or any other SEC school for that matter, most on here would make fun of it or see it as a joke.

No one would be worried about UF becoming a dynasty or a serious contender.[/QUOTE

Was you concerned with Kirby and his staff when Georgia hired him? I wasn’t I didn’t think he would do what he has done this fast and I’m pretty sure most thought Florida hit a homerun with mushchamp because he was a big name the man in waiting at Texas but you never know until it plays out. I think most people and myself included feel that we are at a better starting point with this staff than what we were with the last 2 coaching staffs that were here.

i'm going to assume that since you felt compelled to question why someone might be excited, that you already have a good idea of why some are.

you have yet to give any reasons why you're not, why someone shouldn't be or why he's going to be fired in 4 years or less.

stay on point, after all, it is YOUR point being discussed.

He’s never been a head coach on any level. Just 10 years ago he was a high school DB coach.

He’s had the pleasure of coaching under great HC’s with elite talent his entire career. You could argue that he gained valuable experience under those guys and that’s a fair point.

I’d argue that it’s not hard to be a DC when every guy on the roster is a 5* and at Bama the HC is the GOAT. Their next DC will have similar success. Plus every time we get a coach from Bama they’re a bust. UF just had their Bama coach flame out.

At FSU the defense was good but their offense was better. If you remember Auburn wore them out with a transfer DB playing QB, and Winston saved the day with a clutch drive to seal the deal.

If it wasn’t for Kirby having an epic year this year most people wouldn’t be excited about Pruitt, but now they think he would have similar success.

I would be more on board with him and this staff if he had better coaches for the offense. The defense may be okay, UT has some underutilized talent on that side of the ball that he can work with. Plus Rumph and Sherrer are good coaches.

Offensively is where they really need help, and with him being a defensive guy ideally you would want a proven OC which Helton is not, and he wasn’t even an OC. Then he lets his best offensive guy in CRG go and brings in Weinke? Why? What has Weinke done coaching wise? Even if you brought him in for recruiting that’s still questionable. His IMG connections aren’t as great as people think and CRG was a great recruiter. I don’t see why all of a sudden (since he’s gone) people want to minimize how good he really was.

So a heisman QB is going to coach RBs?

I am only assuming you’re being funny. EVERY great coach has coached multiple positions and probably the greatest college DC of all time was a All conference offensive lineman....NO ISSUE AT ALL FOR HIM BEING A RB COACH....

I'd rather have Gillespie.

JMHO and I liked coach Gillespie however I would consider the past 5 yrs as average under his watch over the RBs. He also failed on bringing in a top tier back this year. It was time to move on and have a clean slate for coach Pruitt.

Welcome coach Weinke!

Go Vols!

i do see some of that. people need to feel good about the goings on.

the reality is, CRG was a good coach. and he was a good recruiter.

he apparently was simply not a fit for what CJP wants to do going forward.

sometimes it's just as simple as that, and doesn't require a lot of thought or analytics to critique or to justify it.

Weinke may turn out to be a bust, but that's not going to translate in to "shoulda kept CRG". likewise, if Weinke is great, it doesn't mean CRG was garbage.

I couldn't agree more.

Are you kidding me? It’s not his fault Butch was a moron when it came to the offense.

Hurd was a stud, and was good despite playing in a terrible system, Kamara fit better yet Butch kept him sidelined for Hurd, Kelly was good too but just so happened to start during UT’s worst year historically.

The running backs produced despite playing behind a terrible o-line, and a terrible offensive system (mainly Hurd).

all fine well and good. now, i would tell you that some of this is at least misinformed.

if you go look at the defensive production before/after Pruitt at both GA and FSU, you might find more improvement than what you've noted here.

if you go look at what Helton was able to do with the passing game and QB's at WKU and at USC, you might find more definitive evidence of what kind of offensive mind he really is, and what kind of productivity he's trying to attain.

and if you go back and look at who was doing a lot of the recruiting at FSU, GA and Bama, you might find that Pruitt was one of the primary guys that brought in a lot of that talent he was fortunate enough to coach. and the ones he wasn't, love the guy. you saw who got the gatorade bath after the NT game, right? it wasn't Saban.

and i think if you read more around this whole message board, you also might find that there's a pretty decent # of people that understand, and recognize, the differences in what Kirby took over at UGA vs what Pruitt is taking over here. so while it's better imo than what CBJ took over, it's not even close to the same as what Kirby took over two years ago.

what it seems like to me, is that you've made your mind up, and you're not interested in seeing/reading/hearing anything that may be contrary to what you've already decided to think, regardless of the origin of that contrary information.

so, don't take my word for it...i'd tell you to go find out for yourself...that's what i did.

Was thinking maybe they’d have Hardesty coach RBs without the title. Kind of like Sheridan 2 years ago

Sheridan was limited in what he could do...as an off-field coach. See the results. He’s done well at Indiana imo with the freedom to actually coach.

But yet he's been here since 13' knowing Jones was a moron and never left? Knowing Jones' days were number.

Its interesting why he never jumped at another offer over the years.

Weinke has been a vfl since his well timed injury before the Natty game...Lol. No one ever talks about it but that game would have been a much tougher W with Weinke playing.

was he a moron, or was it just so qb reliant, that absent a difference maker athletically like Dobbs, it just didn't work right in this league?

see i would argue that the butch system is fine.....for where it came from. it just doesn't work physically in this league, against defenses that can out quick you to the edges and out physical you up front.

the personnel decisions were questionable at best, and we'll never know if CRG was AK's biggest advocate and CBJ just didn't wanna hear it or if CRG was just a yes man, and went with the flow.

i feel confident in saying that if CRG did feel that strongly about AK getting more touches and reps, then he didn't do a very good job of forcing the issue with the OC or the Head coach.

What’s so great about Pruitt? He wasn’t even on anyone’s radar when the search started.

This is the VN way:
Recruit commits and he is the greatest player in the world
Recruit de-commits and he would have been a bust, didn’t want
Coach is hired and he is the next Saban
Coach leaves and it’s not a big deal because he sucked anyway

This is spot on. I love the drama and reactions on here... much better than TV.

Much rather have Coach G. This staff isn’t anything special. People are getting excited over nothing.

These are the same people that got excited about Dooley and Butch, and talked about how great they were going to be.

I’m willing to guarantee UT will be on another coaching search in 4 years. Mark this post if you want.
You didn't take your meds did you😎

You do know he was the head coach at IMG for 4 years right? I gotta imagine you knew that, and I gotta believe that is a "connection" with IMG.

I would hafta think that his experience as Head Coach at IMG Academy for i think 5 seasons, that experience alone would at minimum earn a shot as a WR, RB, or QB position coach to see what he's capable of. Then, you add in the experience winning a Heisman at a major school. And also add in the experience playing in the NFL for 6 seasons. And then, add in his experience as an NFL position coach with the Rams coaching the TEs. Plus, as the cherry on top, ya gotta add in his 1yr of experience in the SEC at our conference's powerhouse Alabama as an "off-field" assistant/offensive analyst.........so I'd say it's very safe to assume that he's worthy of a shot as our RBs Coach, lol. We aren't handing the man the reigns to the program as Head Coach or sumthin. He's getting a shot to prove his worth as a position coach, overseeing the RB group, and trying to work his way up onto the recruiting rankings with his various connections and relationships he's built over the years. And obviously Chris Weinke has his sights set on a shot as an OC running an offense, and then hopefully a shot at Head Coach at a power 5 school. So with his goals and ambitions, I think he's gonna pull out every trick out of his bag that he can to prove his value, cause he wants to climb the ladder. So that's good for UT. He'll do well I believe. If nothing else, just for his own coaching career. So he'll be motivated. We've got another good one on staff. This staff is full of connections, relationships, and experiences from a bunch of different areas and levels. Gonna be good for UT.

Not for sure why some reply to obviously ill informed, under researched, lacking data post by people but it gives them vigor to keep posting and takes up precious time to scratch through and find posters responses I respect. I guess we just can’t help ourselves uh???
