I was fortunate enough to be able to watch practice this morning. I got there about 9am and they had already started. The offense was on the 100 yard field and the defense was on the smaller field.
They were running drills in groups. I watched to QB/RB group first. Was mainly watching the QBs, Bryce Brown, and Oku. Oku was much smaller than I thought he would be. They were practicing screen passes. Everything looked good at that point to me.
I made my way over to where the defense was practicing. As soon as I got there the horn blew and some of the offense came to join the defense on the smaller field. They were running drills with everything but WRs. Just running plays. The first time Oku got the ball he broke one, that was nice to see.
Listening and watching Coach O with in these drill was the best part of the morning. The man is a beast and he is crazy intense. I wouldn't want him in my grill. Quote of the day, Coach O told the defense during these drills "Chase their ass down, chase their ass down!" During this segment, Crompton missed 2 snaps in a row.
From here they did some scrimmage type work, pretty fun to watch and very intense. IMO, neither QB looked great. The D would stuff the O a few plays in a row, then the O would break a big one. Brandon Warren had a couple of nice sideline catches. I did hear one the coaches late in practice telling him to pick it up and quit limping.
Nu'Keese took some snaps at QB. Most of the time he handed it off, he did have nice pass to a TE.
Pretty nice morning of watching them. I was just amazed by how small Nu'Keese and Oku were. Bryce Brown has good size to him. Also seeing Crompton and Stephens up close, those guys are both big dudes.
I also got to meet a couple of media members. I met Wes Rucker, Brent Hubbs, and a guy reporting for Basillio. Rucker and the guy from Basillio were really nice guys and we talked a little football. I think I was just a bother to Hubbs.
