We still have a shot at playoffs!

Not if you are a rational human being and take injuries into account.

Tennessee was missing 9 starters and as many as 14 total players from their 2-deep during the October match-up with Alabama.

If those guys come back and help lead Tennessee to victory over Alabama on a neutral site, it would support the argument that the only reason the October match-up was so lopsided was because of injuries.

Also remember, the playoff committee looks at how your team looks in December not in October. So if Tennessee wins over Alabama in the SEC championship game, that would be stronger evidence they are the better team than who won the match-up in October.

Regardless of injuries, no one gets beat by 39 points in their own house and has a legitimate argument that they are the actual better team.

The fact of the matter is, we are an injury riddled team, but we still got outcoached and outplayed in every facet of the game. The gameplan was poor, the playcalling was poor, the tackling was poor, just everything was poor.

We are still having a good season. We still most likely will win out and have a shot at ATL. But this idea that we are on the same level as Alabama or are possibly a CFB playoff team is ridiculous. People just look delusional for making the argument that we are one of the 4 best teams in CFB. IF we were to sneak in, someone more deserving then us would probably be getting left out.

I have to say, it is funny watching the back and forth on here....as if this were a real discussion

What's really gonna be funny, is when we happen to have our best game and actually beat Bama, and this becomes a real discussion on ESPN.

I just feel like what happened vs bama is going to propel this team to true greatness! I guarantee you are players have in their minds to get another shot at them , if Jones can manage the health of this team through the winnable games I like our chances the end of Bama schedule is rougher than ours and they would play Auburn right before they played us in the SEC championship

"Winnable". Nothing's given in the SEC.

Watch this happen:
-A&M beats bama regular season, finishes undefeated.
-UT plays A&M in the SECCG and narrowly beats them in a classic.
-Committee picks 11-1 Alabama for the playoff over the 11-2 UT team that they stomped in the season and the 12-1 A&M team that just lost.

So you're telling me if we beat Alabama in the SEC championship game with a relatively healthy roster that the October 15th game is more indicative of who the better team is than a game in December on a neutral site? Really?

Come on now. Alabama might just be that good. And they might wipe the floor with us again in Atlanta. But saying a 39 point loss in October when you are missing nearly half your 2-deep and just went thru a 4 week gauntlet of ranked opponents is more indicative of who the better team is than a game on a neutral site in December is preposterous.

If Tennessee somehow ends up 11-2 SEC Champs, they will make the playoffs unless the Big 12 is won by an undefeated Baylor or West Virginia.

As long as Oklahoma wins the Big 12 at 10-2, a 11-2 Tennessee will be in the playoffs. PERIOD.

It's actually not preposterous. They beat us by 39 AT HOME. So, arguably, that is much tougher to do than on a neutral site. And realistically, the only defensive players that would possibly be back in time for ATL would be Kirkland, McDowell, and Sutton as far as defense. O'Brien is gone, JRM and Sapp are out for the season, KMac is gone for the season.

I'm just saying you all are trying to argue that Tennessee is one of the 4 best teams in the country, which is supposed to be what the CFB Playoffs is indicative of. The SEC could just straight up miss the playoffs altogether something you all fail to grasp.

An 11-2 TN, even with a monumental upset, is not guaranteed to be in and probably shouldn't be in. I just do not see us being one of the 4 best teams in the country after what I have seen the past 2 weeks, but that doesn't mean we still aren't having a good season or potentially a great season

EDIT: Also, even with injuries a 39 point blowout loss at home is still a terrible mark on a resume. I don't see the committee being as forgiving as you all think they would be.

Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Florida, healthy Tennessee.....I'm just saying.

You are just being a homer with this comment. As of right now, all of these teams stand a strong chance of losing to both OSU and Michigan on a neutral site. Ole Miss couldn't even beat Arkansas or FSU, and we all watched FSU get boatraced by Lousiville.

Contrary to popular belief on this board, there is great football to be found outside the SEC, and that's OK. It's honestly better for the entire sport. Do we really need 4 terrible conferences and 1 good conference?

If Bama is undefeated going into the SECCG and we manage to beat them, Bama WILL NOT go into the playoffs ahead of us.

Yes they will. A one loss Bama team not ahead of a two loss Tennessee team that they beat by 6 TD's earlier in the year?

Of course there is no reason in discussing it because it won't be happening even if we do make ATL. Will be another blow result and drubbing from Bama.

OP is correct in thread title, still have a shot. 10-2 reg season 11-2 after a seccg win over "mighty" alabama, UT will be in.

If bama is no 1 when we play them in seccg, and they get beat by UT, they will drop out of top 4. And they aren't leaving an SEC out of the CFP

I'm not predicting any of this happening, but they have a "shot"

Dude, UT dropped 6 spots (AP) after WINNING ball games this year. If bama gets beat by "lucky and injured" UT, they are out of the top 4

How do you manage injuries? Just don't play a guy, is that the way? Our good players have to play for us to win. If they are on the field for one play, an injury can happen. Now maybe he can manage their recovery.

Once again read the committee's criteria and look at the precedent.

In the old poll/computer era you would be correct. But the playoff committee has strict guidelines they follow. First and foremost being CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS WON. The committee's own guidelines say that the only way a non-champion can get in over a conference champion is if the non-champ is UNEQUIVOCALLY BETTER.

Is a 12-1 Alabama team that just lost on a neutral site to a 11-2 Tennessee team "UNEQUIVOCALLY BETTER"?

I'm guessing the playoff committee says no.

Its a sad day, when on a Vols football forum, a Florida Fan makes more sense than a Vols fan.

Dont hold your breathe buddy. But I cant knock the optimism and enthusiasm, keep it up sport. Sooner or later youll just us in this place called reality.

I like our chances too. Get healthy, run the table, win the SECCG and get some help from other teams.

Plan C all the way to Tampa.
