We should keep Butch because:

Because Lou Holtz and Mack Brown said no! (Lou Holtz is calling the Shinshinnati vs Shyracush game.)

6. Freakish number of injuries ( true)

I used to work closely with the sports medicine department of a Div 1 school, to the extent I was privy to confidential medical information. While working with them, sports medicine became aware of a string of "freakish" non-contact MCL injuries to players of various positions, levels of foot pronation... and eventually it was discovered several schools in the division had the same issue. Eventually it was discovered that a specific model of shoe lead to an unnatural level of stress on the MCL when planting. The information was shared with the shoe manufacturer and the problem was quietly resolved (it couldn't be made public because of non-disclosure agreements.)

Anyway, my point is, unexpected injuries can happen anywhere, but when it happens year after year like it has for Tennessee, I tend to believe there is an explanation for it. It could be nutrition, weightlifting form or regimen, equipment, or any number of things, hard to say without access to all the medical records and training information, but if the staff can't figure it out with what is available to them, then that's on them and we shouldn't allow injuries to be an excuse year in and year out.

...Notre Dame was 4-8 last year, kept their coach, and now will contend for a National Championship

Brian Kelly can coach.

Butch Jones cannot coach.

If you want to see UT football sink to its lowest level ever... then keep Jones. His recruiting class is falling apart and that won't end until he proves he can coach a team to its potential AND avoid getting everyone on the roster injured on an annual basis.

1. We will save money ( true)
If you want to save money then fire Jones and hire a replacement from the D3 ranks for $500k per year. UT would probably be better coached.... and... if you're going to finish with a losing record in the SEC every year then you might as well do it cheap, right?

2. He has run a clean program , as far as known.
That's like saying a cop does a good job if the people he arrests make it to jail alive. Some things just have to be baseline expectations.

3. He has a good class lined up for next season ( maybe)
Just lost his best recruit and the best player in the state this year. Lots of reasons... but the kid can't be impressed by the OL's Jones has produced.

4. Currie is new in the job and a hiring mistake would get him fired ( maybe)
So... someone who isn't doing his job well enough to keep it shouldn't be fired because the person who fires him is new in his job? Can you name a work situation in which that would be acceptable?

5. Butch may win out , which would silence 50% of critics. ( not likely, maybe 30-1?)
Very doubtful and even if he did... he has failed massively this year... AGAIN. This was a 9 win team. His best hope is 7 wins following two 10+ win teams that won 8. Jones flat out can't coach.

6. Freakish number of injuries ( true)
For the 4th straight year... and the result of Jones 5 years of building depth? UT has none.

7. For every Saban out there, there are 5 Ogerons and worse ( maybe)
Orgeron will likely be 7-3 after this weekend. He is FAR more likely to win out than Jones... which will leave LSU at 9-3 in his first year. Jones has yet to win 9 regular season games in 5 tries. That would also make LSU 6-2 in the SEC... It took Jones 3 seasons to win 6 SEC games.

8. Ut is rolling in money because of FB profits ( if it aint broke leave it alone )
Yeah. People will keep buying a defective product... right?

9. Many Vol fans are acclimated to losing after the last 10 years and change would make them uncomfortable
Is that a confession?
10. He is all we deserve, cause we are a basketball school anyway( i made afunny) . Ok snarks have at me.
Are you a troll?

11. the team will quit as the Gators did.
So the difference between losing and losing with a crappy attitude is....?

One thing all theses schools who want new coaches don't seem to know, is that for every team that goes 12-0, another team must go 0-12. Somebody has to be the loser.

Every team can't win every game unless maybe we just don't keep score and give out participation trophies. That way there are no losers and nobody gets their feeling hurt.

This is a tough sport and very competitive. I look at it this way, CBJ has most likely played since he was in grade school, got educated and began coaching, and knows more about X's and O's than 99% of anyone who reads this forum. If it was that easy, don't you think CBJ would have more success. I agree Butch needs to go, but at least give the man some respect for trying. He has done nothing to deserve the poor treatment he has received. I love winning, but in the grand scheme of things it's really not that important. Would you want to be treated like CBJ's has been treated? What if it was your Dad, or your child?

The dude had a 3 year honeymoon here, has been relatively treated like a king most of his time here, despite constant condescension to the fanbase for a couple years now, including when he told us all to “eff off” last year on national television.

He’s been ripped for a while on this and other fan message boards (surprise) mostly for reasons he’s brought directly on himself. He’s a big boy who’s made more money in 5 years here than most Americans will make in 10 lifetimes....I’d say that’s a pretty damn good trade in his favor.

No, don’t feel sorry for this guy. Thank him for the good work he did the first 3 or years, but send him on his way as soon as possible.....with the additional $6-8mm he’s owed for his troubles.

And this means what for tennessee??
Stupid argument

Are you really from Soddy? Must be from red bank spoutin off that nonsense

Dudes, I just saw a fun thread and threw an answer out. Nothing wrong with my argument. It doesn't represent my opinion, but nothing wrong with it. Just making the point that Notre Dame was failing life support last year (worse than we are this year), fired seven coaches including both coordinators, and one year later are likely to be in the playoffs.

It would take a dork to not get what I'm saying. I deal with dorks all day. I hoped for a little intellectualism here on the Volnation.
