"We only have 27 guys who played in the swamp ".. CBJ

I haven't listened to the media session, but the actual quote was posted on here. It doesn't read like an excuse. It reads like a coach being honest about the challenge of winning on the road and what they need to do to overcome the challenge in a hostile environment.

I know right. To list the challenges is not the same as preparing excuses.

CBJ has already said he won't apologize for wins.

Screw rockytop. This is the official new fight song for the Tennessee fanbase. Someone get some sheet music out to the band. We gotta get them playing this quick.

Am I missing something? What did he say that was wrong?

He answered a question that was asked. Haha.

And then the crybabies read DEEP into it because they have defeatism engrained into their bones and can't overcome the "sky is falling" mentality of past years.

Pay no mind. They are the Volnation version of a man with shaggy hair running around on the streets wearing a "THE APOCALYPSE IS NEAR" sign and screaming for people to repent.

Absolutely makes you wonder, doesn't it?

Does the man not have anyone writing up his talking points who can steer him away from this crap?

And if he's coming up with it repeatedly on his own, someone really ought be in position to tell him how off-target these nuggets are.

I actually think this corresponds with your idea of a prepared message. It seems to be a pattern during his time here.

Brake pumping.

Did anyone else just hear his embrassing interview on the Finebaum show?

He's already making excuses for why we'll lose the Florida game. He mentioned that only 27 players have played before in the Swamp. Mentioned the 3 games in 13 days. Mentioned the fact we have all these new starters. Just excuse after excuse.

So embrassing that even Finebaum had to call him out.

Sick and tired of hearing that kind of bull crap. I don't think coaches who are confident in themselves and their team come out with stuff like that. It's ridiculous.

It has to be a prepared message. You don't just suddenly realize something like that. Someone researched it, and then someone decided it would make a good talking point.

Whoever that someone is, whether Butch or an advisor, they need to get their heads out of their 4th points of contact.

Like the boy who cried wolf far too many times, this type of factoid has been far over-used in Butch's time here. It's time to retire it.

I've no reason not to believe that the message is total him. He may be getting ideas on how to get that across or he may be deciding that as well. Im not sure that really matters.

His points for the message are really irrelevant. Why he feels the need for that message is more concerning.

Oh, I'm not concerned. It's not concerning. It's not like this makes him a better or worse football coach. It's just annoying.

And as you may have noticed, I don't get annoyed easily by Butch, most of the time. :)

Thats one of those messages you use Griffith to release.
I didn't see a link, maybe he went that route.

Oh well.

The idea that it was even worth the thought...nevermind.

Oh MG talked about this too in his "interview" today...

What was the context of the question asked? Some of y'all act like the man runs to the press just to say things when the truth is he is obligated to talk to them and answer some questions. This... like almost everything CBJ says.... is much ado about nothing.

The truth is he is right. We have a ton of guys who have never traveled to the swamp. There is nothing wrong with that statement. It's not a preemptive excuse. It's just a statement of fact. it doesn't mean those guys get a free pass if they underperform.

If he had said it after a loss I might be on the criticism band wagon. As of now it's not worth reading anything else into.

It doesn't make him a better or worse Xs and Os guy, no. Doesn't really have anything to do with player development either.

I don't even really see it as annoying or get ill when the media picks him apart for it. It's his message, so it's on him. Good or bad.

I just find it interesting how much time he spends framing the perception of situations pre and postgame.

The reality is, time is short for that paying off anymore. It played well in the begin, but most are looking more at the scoreboard now and these caveats are more irrelevant as time passes.

I really don't get it at this point. What he's saying is actually fact. No way around it. Now, it's a different story if we were to lose and he dropped that line, but he hasnt. People are really just reaching for anything he says and take it completely out of context. Saying that before a game is fact, if you say it after a loss, it's an excuse. Hard to understand?

Does Butch have an assistant who can step in and say
"Sir, I really think you should drink this Jack. It will put hair on your sack"

One of the podcasts I listen to every day features Griffith in a long segment. Pretty much the same talking points every day...Butch took over a mess....yep. We are 17-4 in the last 21 and in rare company....yep. Injuries from last year still impacting this team....yep. Hart left us a mess with the schedules....yep. A segment of our fan base hates Butch and will never give him credit....yep. The loud, hyper critical minority is exclusive to UT....nah. Every program competing for titles or that has aspirations of doing so has a critical element. I've seen it on many boards. Griffith certainly seems to have some serious animosity toward our hype critical fans to be sure. Wish there were more analysis about the team, depth charts and upcoming game vs dissing on a minority of our fan base, but hey....he's at least consistent with the message....and somewhat relentless on the subject.
