A good punter and kicker are as important as a good QB.
Too bad many people do not understand that.
Special teams can make or break a team. Even a great team can lose a lot of games when special teams suck.
Fact of the matter is, if your punter sucks and the other team constantly gets to start on the 30 yard line, you basically just gifted 30 yards to that teams offense. That's a 30 yard play they just picked up. Let that sink in. If you had a defense that gave up 3-4 30 yard plays a game, you'd say that defense sucked. But people do not seem to understand that applies to special teams too.
But if you sink them to the 5-10 yard line 3-4 times a game....you just gifted your defense with like 100-120 more yards to work with every game. That's a big deal. That means their offense has to make that up. 100+ yards a game is difficult to make up.
And a good punter can actually have that much of an effect on a game. Hundreds of yards one way or another.
