If you skew the Georgia Tech game to our 372 yard per game average instead of the 655 we gave up to them that places us right at 25th in the nation as far as yardage is concerned. We never play triple option teams so I think it's fair to throw the stats out on that game and look at it as our per game average compared to the other games. If you look at it objectively our defense has performed remarkably well this season compared to the last few years. If our offense would actually sustain drives instead of going 3 and out all the time we could be looking at a top 15 defense which is amazing. I would just like to give a shoutout to the defense because through all the chaos they have actually played very well and we should all be proud of their effort.

Life isn't fair.

UT is solid on defense the last few games but that doesn't take away the debacle against Georgia Tech

Yeah, be real proud of letting the receiver get behind you at Florida amd then giving up 41 points vs a division rival. Great job.

So... we aren't a top 25 defense.

I don't think it's unreasonable to discount the Ga Tech stats, although I probably wouldn't throw them out altogether. I think the D has done fairly well, considering the fact they have to play about three-quarters of the game. With a decent offense giving them some rest, I think they're pretty fair. I doubt a top 15, tho.

The first thing you mentioned is a reasonable gripe.

However, defense can't win any game when the offense can't even get past the 50yd line. Just saying.

Our Corners are awful. I have not faced a real Italy thrower the Missouri guy will throw for 500 yards

Pass D has been pretty good so far, helped probably by opponents knowing they can run on us easily. Only VU trails us in run yardage yielded in sec stats. SC gained 194 on the ground. Still have problems getting off the field. TOP again favored the opponent. Misfiring offense contributed.

Lol. Yeah, just forget that little 655 yard/41 point game to start what has been a disastrous season. Gonna argue we go ahead and forget the 600 yard/50+ point game we're about to give up next Saturday as well?

Hey, while we're at it, let's do the inverse with our offense.....only count the GaTech game and forget the other 5.....yipeee, why, we're a top 25 offense too.

So what you are saying is, if we didnt give up so many yards we would be a top 25 defense?

Cool

If we scored more points we would have a top 25 offense.

And if we hadn’t hired Botch we would likely be a top 25 team.

But **** happens lol

I'm not discounting that entire game, rather giving GT 372 yards which is our average. If we had a normal defensive game against them, that's the difference between us being currently ranked 49th vs 25th. I think that's pretty reasonable.

You do realize they only scored 28 in regulation? OT really changes people's perception of that game. For as many yards as they had that is really good on the defense to only give up 28 points.

So what is your point

My point is that our defense has kept us in ball games when our offense has been historically bad. We are only averaging 11.5 points per game on offense the last 4 games. Think about that for a minute.

The D hasn't really been keeping Tennessee in games. UMass is just a very bad team. And SC is not a good offensive team. When playing better teams like GA and G Tech they scored almost at will....... The same will be true if/when Tennessee plays another good offensive team.

The Tennessee D gave up almost 200 rush yards to one of the worst rushing teams in the country.......they were ranked 122nd in the nation at rushing offense........and Tennessee gives every team more rushing yards than their average even the crappy team's. Sure the O does t help but the Tennessee D is just as garbage as the O

People keep making excuses for Shoop but here at Tennessee he sucks just like Butch.
