We Got Ourselves A Coach

GREAT win for CDT and the Vols. With all the off-court distractions taking place and a team full of new faces, Donnie Knoxville has proved to be a coach. I don't miss Cuonzo in the least. Go Vols and Go CDT. #BeatNCState

He did pull that off though. We were picked bottom of the barrel in the SEC his first year. We beat #13 Final Four team UF, a better team than this Butler team 67-56 . People seem to have very selective memory when it comes to Martin.

Yes they do. You seem to remember him as a great coach, but, 3/4 of the fans don't.

One former pure starter at the 2 playing 1 much of the time. One former sub that was second off the bench at 3 now starting as an undersized 4. One former sub that was 4th off the bench playing second off the bench as a 4 and 5. One former injured out for the season sub that played a 2 now playing the same as the first or second off the bench. Then a whole bunch of guys from everywhere that didn't know each other until the summer and all want to play together, for each other, and focus for 40 minutes. Just beat #15. Because of CDT....

Don't forget the Rocky Top summer league. :wink2:

Last year team played their hearts out for Martin because they knew he was in hot water. Then they all left, abandoning the program for.Martin.

Correct. After the petition!

Prior to that they UNDERACHIEVED, and it was his fault for letting them.

Wow. Calm down. Be cautious before jumping into that kool aid. Who knows if CDT will even be our coach come March. Two Good back to back wins definitely.

I'm curious where HBC butch and whobethis16 are tonight? It's a dark day for those wanting DT to fail

Some of us work 2 jobs at 65+ hours a week, and had some shopping and all sorts of other things to do this weekend when we had a little bit of time due to said working. But thanks for thinking about me. Glad to know you missed me.

And it's not so much wanting him to fail, because we want to win ballgames. However, it's not too much to ask to not have a sleaze as a coach who can keep his nose clean. Time will tell on that one. But based on this game, he did a great job, as did the players finally executing. Kudos to them.

Also we won a big game after woodson was announced as leaving. We tried to help him but it didnt workout. Wish the best for him

Any coach that can get a player to have confidence and play "TEAM" ball will be successful, I know it sounds simple, but I don't think many coaches have the ability to get average players (according to their ranking ***) and get them to play at a higher level.

Any coach can draw up Xs and Os, (Urban Myer), but their success is mainly predicated on having 5* players. I admire coaches that can take a young man or woman and build a great TEAM.........which in my opinion is.........A GREAT TEAM is better than a great player.

Go Vols.......great win!

Wow GREAT game and I'm full Donnie now.. I loved seeing all that intensity for 40 minutes straight. The team is downright relentless and selfless.. everyone is playing for the next guy right now and it's great to see. Being part of a team like that is just fun and you can really see how that's the way it is with the product on the court. Extremely happy for Josh can't believe how far he's come.. the dude had a real ugly offensive game when he first got here and how much he's improved is beyond me! Hats off to Josh! And lastly, I personally don't see the point in the Cuonzo wouldn't have done this or that discussions.. it's something you really cannot compare! I respect Cuonzo for all that he has contributed to this program while he was here.. he was a first-class coach who had his head on straight and genuinely cared for and guided the players not only on the court but more importantly off the court. I wish him only the best and hope he's successful at Cal. Anyways, this is my first post and hope to be able to speak with yall through the forum much more in the future! GO VOLS  (from Canada!!!!)

Great post. At least one person has some sense. :good!:

The folks on the football board won't like this, but Tyndall is an example of what I've been trying to say about Jones. Even if you have a talent deficient team, a good coach will still shine through and demonstrate his quality by the play of his team. We won't be much above .500, if at all, in hoops, but we seem to look like we are well coached and that goes a long way to earning some amount of credibility as you build "brick by brick".

I was pretty undecided about Tyndall and still think Hart botched the search, but he may have backed into a very good coach. It remains to be seen how well he can recruit, but I am pleasantly surprised by what I have seen from Tyndall, thus far. He has a solid offense, produces good effort from his players, manages the game well from the sidelines and can make effective adjustments during the game.

Are u seriously comparing basketball to football?.....not to mention the difference in schedule Jones has faced

Heh. Hart still can't get any respect even though he's had a pretty good couple of weeks. He got us a nice trade-up with the Gator bowl...hammered out a new deal with CBJ...and his roundball coach is trending up and getting positive attention for a change.

That's understandable .

Tyndall wasn't his first choice and he screwed up the deal with White, scrambling to get Tyndall. So, like I said, Tyndall appears to be a good coach, but he wasn't anywhere near the top choice for Hart.

I don't think you can compare basketball to football. I know the analogy you're trying to use, but trying to turn around a program in football in the best conference in America vs. trying to win in the SEC in hoops is like night and day. Also, upsets happen much more regularly in hoops than they do in football. It's a numbers game. See Michigan and their losses to NJIT and Eastern Michigan for proof.

Coaching's coaching. Even if they lack the talent to succeed on a high level, good coaching can be apparent, which is what I've been saying to the football people all along. Tyndall has shown, already, that he can take the sum of a team's parts and make them better through his coaching. I have yet to see that from Jones.

It was a great win (regardless of who the coach is) for the University and the players!

The second half was fun to watch. It stopped me from having to watch football and my fantasy team mailing it in a couple of weeks early and costing me a shot a the $$$.

Yeah I agree. GREAT half time adjustment. Not ready to coronate CDT a really good coach just yet but I'm about as close as one can get. Man he gives everything he has on that sideline. Don't like slamming on CCM but I have missed that passion on the sideline and glad it's back. I could however do without that trashy mouth..,GREAT WIN VOLS!!!!

Martin was playing UTAD in the midst of his contract negotiations , he knew he was making a lateral move to cal all along. I'll slam his ass anytime the opportunity arises. Glad he's …….:gone:
