We Got Ourselves A Coach

Easily the walk away from this game. If Martin coaches, we don't come close to winning this game (given the circumstances you outlined above).
Actually, this is the kind of game Martin would have won. It's games against the likes of Austin Peay and Texas A&M at home that you had to be worried about.

Last year team played their hearts out for Martin because they knew he was in hot water. Then they all left, abandoning the program for.Martin.

Well if he was that great of a coach and motivator they would have been playing hard for him every game...not to just try to save his job.

Not in non-conference play. The only ranked non-conference team we beat under Martin was Wichita St who was ranked #23 two years ago. A Martin coached team was likely to lose to a decent non-conference opponent. That is why we were always playing catch up in conference play. He had three pretty good wins in non-conference play. UCONN his first year, Wichita St his second year and Virginia his last year. That's it. Only one of those was ranked and that was Wichita St at #23.

Regular season non-conference losses under Martin were:

1st year:

#6 Duke, #8 Memphis, Oakland, #17 Pitt, Austin Peay, College of Charleston and Memphis again (who was not ranked when we played them again).

2nd year:

Oklahoma St, #20 Georgetown, Virginia, Memphis

3rd year:

Xavier, UTEP, #12 Wichita St, NC State

I agree with you, that was my point
they only played hard at the end of the season knowing Martin was likely gone.

Good job by CDT.

Please leave Martin out of this though. Its annoying. We don't know what would have happened with him coaching. If its more exciting depends on your opinion. We are scoring less and winning with d just like Martin. Its not really much difference between the two.

Not for nothing but when you agree to coach for that amount of money, aren't you subsequently exposing yourself to ridicule from... Whoever, whenever?

Am I off base here?

One former pure starter at the 2 playing 1 much of the time. One former sub that was second off the bench at 3 now starting as an undersized 4. One former sub that was 4th off the bench playing second off the bench as a 4 and 5. One former injured out for the season sub that played a 2 now playing the same as the first or second off the bench. Then a whole bunch of guys from everywhere that didn't know each other until the summer and all want to play together, for each other, and focus for 40 minutes. Just beat #15. Because of CDT.

To compare that in any way to what we saw under Zo is beyond absurd. The same guys that in their best season were one loss from not making the play-in game in the only tourney they made with two NBA draft picks and two other seniors starting. ROTFLMAO!
This. These players are playing like this for CDT. I believe in Tyndall to right the ship and help us back to the higher ups of basketball. Yes I know we were in the sweet 16 last year but this is an entirely different team. I wasn't sure when he was first hired how I would like him but the passion he has for this university and game is second to none.

Today was the perfect example of what his style of play can and will do. His defense is fun to watch and effective. We didn't have 22 TOs forced today but we did have 14 against a butler team who is very disciplined according to our "resident experts" so I'll take their word for it. We shot 50% from the field and out scored them 42-21 in the 2nd half. Our offense and rebounding needs some work but this defense will help us stay in games we shouldn't and even win some games we shouldn't.

Tyndall also has a huge opportunity to recruit some high level guys to his program. Guys like Kegler, Ado, and Blackwell. He did a good job with filling out the roster in a short time and has some great role players on our team. Hope Bonds helps us with Blackwell and go vols

Can we please stop with all the Martin BS ? We just won a huge game . The team is improving every game it seems , so we will get better . We have something to look forward to . Let's not ruin it with all this arguing about former coaches

I predict Martin will not last at Cal. I don't think he has the savvy and charisma to impress any school. Maybe Cal likes the quiet, silent type. I don't know how much of a benefit Martin was in our advance to the Sweet Sixteen. I rarely saw him coaching, and never had much fire or much of anything intelligent to say to the media. He just sorta felt his way along. Donnie Knoxville, the fiery little ...Irishman?, I suspect, is proving himself, though he will always look to me like Spanky in "Our Gang." For now Don be the Mon.

The fun is this conversation even exists. A marked man throws together a make shift team of a bunch of street ballers that perform beyond expectations. And when comfortably up they aggressively execute offensive plays with confidence and determination. I have never seen that at TN and I go all the way back to the Earnie and Bernie show. Its should be a fun season

Hey, I missed it watching football, in a losing cause, so could somebody fill me in on the Butler game? High scorers, rebound totals, turnovers. What I saw of the Kansas State game was exciting. Kept their mistakes to a minimum. Wish I'd seen the Butler game. I thought it was tonight.

I was one who didn't like martins style and was vocal. Hell I signed petition. But it is over now. Time to let it go. We got dt

Seems I recall Virginia having a pretty decent team at the end of the season...

Cal is 9-1 IIRC, PAC 12 is worse than the SEC this season IMO

I see a combo in CDT of Kevin O'Neal (sp) and Coach Pearl. O'Neal's foul mouth and Coach Pearl's enthusiasm.

Wow GREAT game and I'm full Donnie now.. I loved seeing all that intensity for 40 minutes straight. The team is downright relentless and selfless.. everyone is playing for the next guy right now and it's great to see. Being part of a team like that is just fun and you can really see how that's the way it is with the product on the court. Extremely happy for Josh can't believe how far he's come.. the dude had a real ugly offensive game when he first got here and how much he's improved is beyond me! Hats off to Josh! And lastly, I personally don't see the point in the Cuonzo wouldn't have done this or that discussions.. it's something you really cannot compare! I respect Cuonzo for all that he has contributed to this program while he was here.. he was a first-class coach who had his head on straight and genuinely cared for and guided the players not only on the court but more importantly off the court. I wish him only the best and hope he's successful at Cal. Anyways, this is my first post and hope to be able to speak with yall through the forum much more in the future! GO VOLS  (from Canada!!!!)
