We can run the table !

I will say this, I think that if all 3 coaches (fulmer, chavis, cut) will stay together for a while we could b on the edge of another NC and that would give us 7, I just want to catch up to Bama in that. Does ne one know who has the second most NC's? and where UT ranks on that list?

When you aren't out front the view never changes, does it?

My count for Tennessee is 6. Others may disagree.

What I believe, is Bama with their 12.
USC, Notre Dame, and Michigan have 11. That is what their websites say, and that is what I have seen watching their games when it has been bought up.

And nobody really believes them.

I count the NCs as crowned by one of the 2 major coaches polls of the day (generally, the AP and whatever incarnation of the coaches' poll was in existence.) I would like to have 6, and I can even say that we should have more than 2, but since I don't count National Championships by Oklahoma in 2003 (Berryman) or Ohio St. in 1998 (Sagarin,) I have a hard time giving us credit for winning Litkenhouse when somebody else, fairly or not, won the AP and UPI.

So I will have to disagree with tnvolsfan and allvol, because any argument that would ever award a national championship in football to Kentucky :scare: (Sagarin, 1950,) is by definition invalid.

I would be happy with 4 things
1. At least 9 regular season wins
2. A chance to play for the SEC championship
3. A decent bowl game
4. Fourth and foremost...a BLOWOUT win over South Carolina.

Well its tough to look into.

The NCAA USED to count a lot of polls they dont count any more, so every team has more than the big 2 gives credit for.

So collectively there are probably about 300 national titles claimed by NCAA D1 football programs when football has been played for what, about 110 years or so?

Makes sense to me.

I say AP poll through 1997, BCS afterwards. That gives us 2 (as much as I'd love to have the 6).

I think the Quarterback situation at UGA is already settled. Stafford will be the man behind center unless he gets hurt, then it will be Joe Cox. Both extremely talented, but very raw and neither knows the system nearly as well as Joe T. did. The loss of Joe T. is a serious punch in the gut to GA, as much as many of my fellow Bulldog fans think that Stafford is the second coming of Christ, Joe T was the best chance Ga had for all it's big games. I doubt Stafford will be ready to face a top-knotch SEC Defense by the time he gets up here. Although GA won the game in SC, that was mostly a defensive effort (and bad decisions by Spurrier not to take the sure points when he had the chance), and the running game won't carry the team against TN, FL, or AU. Georgia Tech will probably give GA a serious problem this year as well.

All in all I think LSU and Florida will be the main problems for TN this year if Ainge keeps his accuracy up. That said, he did have all day to throw against Air Force, something he won't have with Quintin Moses and Charles Johnson on the ends for the UGA defense.

Just call it 6 and hope no one notices. :whistling:

I will take whatever is given to me, even if I feel it is undeserved.

Ok I have to bring this thread back alive. We look great. Auburn will be pissed and get after Florida. We have a bye, so time to heal up and get ready for Bama. I believe we will beat LSU and run the table. I do expect a hard fought game from Arkansas. It is looking better and better for us to run the table this year.

Nobody is running the table in the SEC unless they are extremely lucky.

Honestly I think we have a shot. I haven't said that in a while, but seriously. For that to happen a couple things need to happen.

1.Coker needs to develop and become the freak he's capable of by getting a little stronger and staying healthy.

2.The D-line will need to improve. There was a weak pass rush and bad run-stopping this year. The chemistry amongst freshman d-lineman this year will be good. Ben Martin is a great pass rusher and Langley and Meclandon are good runstoppers. Fisher, Bolden, and Ayers will need to have big years

3.*** The playmakers coming in from this year's recruiting class will need to produce, and they most likely will. Ainge is great at the quick, short WR screen passes, and Vinson, Berry, Jones, and O'Neal if they play well will turn them into big plays.

That said, our playmakers this year will be as fast as anyone's in the country. All those guys I just mentioned + Coker are incredibly fast.

and btw our schedule sucks.
Cal will be better... Florida not quite as good but still very tough threat...SC will be better... Georgia will be MUCH better... Arkansas won't be as good, but you saw what happened last year. LSU will be a toughie too. So that's what 6 games we can lose?

Hell's yeah they'll be fast. Hopefully well have like 5 Percy Harvin's with Coker, O-Neil, Vinson, Berry, and Jones. We could use so many reverse plays with that speed it wouldn't be funny.

Cal will actually probably not be quite as good, but it's in Berkley so it's probably a wash.

I agree about Florida, but we catch them early with a lot of new faces.

SC and Ga will probably be better, but at least both of those are in Knoxville.

LSU isn't on the schedule.
