The AD should either allow the hfc to hire whoever he wants as assistants or go ahead and fire him. If you don't have the confidence that the guy can make the right hires then why keep him around?
I see what you're thinking, but this is just not one of those things that is going to land on the AD. This is Fulmer's hand. How he plays it will say a lot about his future.I wholeheartedly agree with you, but the opportunity is undeniably there. If he doesn't the curtain will be pulled back for the entire Volnation to see what the AD is really made of.
The AD should be involved in any hire that is made. He should provide oversight and insure the best interests of the University and program are observed. Anything less and he's not doing his job.
There should be some hiring criteria, of course. I just think you really hamstring the coach if you don't let him hire who he thinks will do the best job. At that point accountability is further eroded because when the stuff hits the fan the AD and the HFC will be pointing fingers at each other. The AD should be involved in any hire that is made. I tend to agree with you Boro. If Mike was really calling the shots, he could go to CPF and say "I went to bat for you, so don't screw this up". Phil has an opportunity to be innovative, and Hammy has an opportunity to prove he is not a puppet.
Unfortunately we typically are what we are.

If he leaves it will suck for our QB.
there's other qb coaches out there. it's hard to say Cut is all that great when his two best pupils were Mannings. It's not like their dad had no input on how they came out. His other star pupil is Ainge? Please, i'm not Ainge hater, but I'd take Kelly, Shuler, and Casey Clausen all over Ainge.
