Right now I have one great anxiety about our game with Oregon...watching this Boise defense...I'm not sure that we have more talent on defense than they do...which makes me concerned that the Wilcox advantage against Oregon may not be what we hoped.

I think we have at least the same talent level. Just dont think hes had time to install his whole package here yet. I think we will be fine.(hope)

...but our defense does not go against their defense. This should alleviate your anxiety.

Anyone else notice that the 'experts' contradict themselves with Boise St.

On one hand they base recruiting classes, ESPN150 recruits, star count in recruiting when doing pre-season rankings and predictions then turn right around and praise a team that annually ranks in the 80's in recruiting out of 120 teams not even realizing that a team that can obviously hang with the 'big boys' actually gets coached up?

Just something to keep in mind when saying 'oh man, another 3 star, whatever!'

That team has some studs. You don't want any of that this year.

I think it was clear I am talking about our defense against Oregon's offense in comparison to Boise State's defense against Oregon last year...Wilcox being the common denominator...but thanks for your help.

I was thinking the exact same thing. They seem just as dominate without Wilcox as they did with him. Not doubting Wilcox or his abilities, just saying

After the last 2 or 3 years we do NOT have as much talent at Bosie St on Offence or DEFENCE period. In a couple years we will.

Wilcox don't seem to be a factor tonight. Their new DC got them boys clicking on all cylinders. I hope our D can sustsain the energy that BSU has right now the entire game.

I think we have as much talent. Heck we have had two top 10 recruiting classes in a row. Its just that we are young, you are correct though about it taking a year or so. GBO

I think a lot of us Vol fans just automatically assumed we have more talent on defense than Boise so Wilcox should be able to shut down Oregon and everyone else for that matter. I gotta say, the Boise staff is incredible. They are well coached in every aspect of the game.

Hey all you kicking experts....notice how BSt is kicking to the goal line and their coverage team is at the 30 when the deep guy catches the ball.....gives him plenty of time to look for a lane or two. And he had a nice return on the last kick-off.

Sooooo....be happy with what Dooley is scripting for his kick-off team.

Recruit the fastest, hungriest 3 stars in the country. Then coach em up. That is what's on my tv right now.

(Per scout.com)

Tennessee 16th 2010 Class vs Boise St. 97th 2010 Class but you wouldn't know it based on recent history, even comparing previous years classes.

Not talking SEC vs WAC. Memphis had the 74th ranked class but don't play people much better than Boise St does, but according to the rankings, Memphis is better off thank Boise St with their talent level.

Anywho, look at what is happening now vs the Chick-fil-a bowl. Point being no matter 3, 4, or 5 stars, you still have to coach them, even to beat 'the teams you should' hence why we struggled to beat NIU, and lost to UCLA twice and Wyoming. But given I think we have much better coaching now, those references are moot points.

Don't despair. Note the Boise players' jersey is soaked with sweat and even now they are slowing a bit and VT making gains as a result. But those pony boys hit hard if you pay close attention. And even tired, they come in gangs. I think it's their attitude that will make the difference. If JW puts that into our boys, Oregon will be in trouble, especially if humidity is as high as projected with 88 degrees.

Boise state is good plain and simple. They can play with anybody and more times that not, beat them.

Lots of people can't see that, even when the evidence is plain. Say what you want about their schedule, but they are obviously a quality, well-coached team and they seem to do pretty well these days against teams from "bigger" conferences.

I think it is more of putting players in a position to make plays, and teaching the kids basic fundamentals such as tackling...wrapping up etc. This Boise squad is a very talented, well coached team. That in itself makes up for *'s IMO. I believe the new coaching staff at UT is bringing the same approach... I can't wait to see what the future holds for VolNation.

Seriously? I'd rather be watching this game in Black & White...those electric blues are like halloween costumes!

Well, folks say our orange is Halloween and other folks say worse things about our orange. Some even think it's actually yellow. So let's not start a fashion name calling war.
