Watch,, it!! Health, exercise etc.

I have a Garmin.

I dont think your Apple is inferior to Samsung at all. With the new Ultra Samsung is close to being equal, but not superior. Garmin is superior to both in every way except some smartwatch functions that are important to me, but not necessities.

I have a Samsung phone and like you and your Apple phone and watch my phone and Samsung watch work so well together and I really like some of the smartwatch things on the Samsung that Garmin doesn't do. But, that's a big reason why Garmin batteries last 6-10 days instead of 1-2.

I thought this new Ultra was gonna be my perfect watch, but I'm giving up on Samsung providing me with it. Looks like Garmin will eventually be the one that does and the Fenix 8 is going to be the closest to it.

It's turned into a hobby and I've accepted it.
I’ve got an 8, not a 9 (or Ultra), and at times I’m a bit jealous of the level of detail that your and Bill’s pics display. Also the battery, ugh. I didn’t realize that the Samsungs are nearly as bad.

It’s the little things that drive me crazy, like the inconsistencies in the Stand counter (get up out of your chair and mine around once an hour.) it often gives me credit as soon as I get out of bed, and other times I march around the house for almost 3 minutes before it registers.

Last time I was cooking a (delayed) Thanksgiving meal, I missed three hours of Stand in a row. I can assure you that I was up on my feet and moving the whole time. I wanted to call the developers and scream, “Do you even know what cooking Thanksgiving for six adults and two kids involves? Do you just get carryout sushi and call it a day?!” lol

Yes, this new Samsung that's bragging about it's battery improvement is laughable. According to what I've read the Samsung will last maybe a half a day longer than the Apple.

True in most all customer service business but it was rule for me in my restaurants. Three most important things are the 3 C's. Cleanliness, Courteousness and Consistency. Samsung watches sucks at consistency and for me its key. Sometimes it gives almost the same numbers as the Garmin and gives the warm and fuzzies, next day it's so wack it makes no sense.

It gives heart rate average during sleep in 2 places. 4 out 6 night this week they were 2 different numbers. Off by 3-6 beats. Wtft?

Unacceptable.

Did last night’s sleep numbers reflect this at all? - I don’t know if you follow the sleep stage breakdowns like I do.
Yes, very much so.

Lulz. *Every day for over 2 years I fill this out.

*on occasion I have missed a day for whatever reason.

And there's the rub. Yesterday comparison was close enough that I wouldn't think twice about it. But the day before was so off I completely lose confidence in the Samsung. No consistency from Samsung.

Ok, I am SERIOUSLY jealous of your deep sleep times. I’m averaging 37 minutes (9% of total sleep) a night. Although that does beat 20 minutes (4%) over the last six months.

I gotta say one of the things that I love about Garmin is being able to pinpoint times on screens. Sometimes the Samsung could be as accurate as the Garmin but I can't verify it like I can with Garmin.

Like here. I noticed during my sleep I had a few minutes of medium stress in the middle of rest. So I put my finger on the screen and move it to the beginning of the orange and it started at 1:18.

Then I go to my sleep screen and see that during that time I was in REM. That tells me I was likely having a stressful dream.

Fenix 8 solar. Haven't seen the regular in black yet.

A negative with Garmin Connect. It's not often, but it happens more than it should. Been this way since I got up at 5:20.

I think @VolNExile is the only one interested and not sure she's interested as much as bored, but check this out.

I've mentioned both Samsung and Garmin are pretty much identical as far as HR accuracy, except with HR average during sleep in which the Samsung is always higher, normally around 6-8 hb higher.

Given that information, the Samsung should show a lower HRV number during sleep than the Garmin. Right?

This has been consistent for as long as I've been keeping data on both.

Last night ..

Garmin - Avg HR 53
Samsung - Avg HR 60

Garmin - Overnight HRV 40
Samsung- Overnight HRV 42

Undermean what I stand?

I don’t think HRV tracks HR that way, although it does sort of make sense. My understanding of HRV (and it’s a pretty shaky understanding) is that it’s looking at the variation in the length of the gaps between beats.

So you could have a relatively high HR (for instance average 80), but your heart is like a metronome with almost no variation in the frequency of beats (low HRV.) Or you could have an average of 80, but the beats are erratic, jumping frequently between 80 and 76 and 86 and 74 etc., meaning high HRV.

This morning from 6-7 (you’re making me look at this stuff lol), my HR ranged between 48-60, HRV 69 (I slept late.) HR from 8-9 ranged between 50-67 and HRV was 266.

So as best as I can tell, HRV is pretty useless for me until my arrhythmia is knocked out, which will be a while. Which is frustrating, because like you, I like finding patterns in numbers.

My “This Is All Behr’s Fault” 🤪 fall schedule:

- Stress echocardiogram yesterday (super fun! - looks at internal structures of heart and how well they work while they rev up a treadmill to stress the heart and inject contrast)
- Implantable Loop Recorder in 2 1/2 weeks (gadget inserted under my skin, over my heart that records rate and rhythm 24/7 to see when and how the rhythm changes)
- Cardiac ablation (zapping of sites inside heart triggering arrhythmia, done via heart cath) sometime in late November unless a slot opens sooner, or I guess if the ILR shows something scary and they have to do it sooner)

I’m fairly certain i don’t check my stats nearly as often as you do, but I’ve never had this happen
I believe it has something to do with android. Yours is connected to an Apple, correct?

I can only guess, but it's probably happened twice in the past 6 months.

I noticed it was back around 8:30.

Yea, I have it through iPhone

Yeah that's not exactly how HRV is determined but I can't make it make sense any other way. Lol.

It’s a very weird concept to me that higher (increased) variability is good. It seems completely bass-ackwards.

This is the only source I’ve found that sort of rings a bell with me: Heart rate variability: How it might indicate well-being - Harvard Health

- if high HRV indicates a relaxed state, my 266 ms this morning must mean I’m a melting blob of jello on the floor.

Lulz, yeah that 266 doesn't make sense. And I guess it's just above my understanding but it just makes sense to me the higher the hrv the slower the hr. The weird thing is I never noticed it being any different until I noticed it on the Samsung. It seems to be the way it makes sense on my Garmin. I'll be paying more attention to it now though.

I do absolutely see how a high regular heartbeat corresponds to a lower HRV. There’s less time between beats for measurable differences to occur.

It’s a bit disappointing that a Fancy Watch isn’t reliable for my (current) HR and HRV, which means that to some extent I can’t believe numbers for sleep stages, cardiac recovery time, and all the other functions that are derived from basic measurements. I guess I’ll see if any of these change after the ablation. That oughta screw up the trends reports!
