Washington DC Walters is a name to watch

I'm leaning toward Derek Mason
Why? He sucked at his last DC job at Oklahoma State. Before that, he was mediocre at Auburn as DC. Before that, he was fired by Vanderbilt as Head Coach. Now he's failing big time as a Head Coach at MTSU. He hasn't been successful at anything since Stanford.

I'm a bit concerned with this. Admittedly I do not know Walters but didn't his defenses give up quite a bit of TD's? I know he had his defense like 3rd in the nation or something like that but Tim Banks won an award last year and look how that turned out?

I rather get someone with SEC experience. Derek Mason, Will Muschamp, etc
So much ignorant in one post.

I don’t have the stats. I just remember watching him play and how he was one of leaders of some great defenses. Also has a Super Bowl ring.

I know he was the linebacker coach under Bill Belichick and was promoted by the Patriots to the head coach as Belichicks successor. Didn’t work out great for him but how much change can a head coach make in one year,

Google can tell you all about it especially the AI thing they have now. I think he would be an absolute fantastic hire.
So basically you are using his time as a player to say he would be a good coach. Forget the fact he isn’t a DC now and has never been one in college. Also, if he is so good, why isn’t he a DC somewhere? You have some sound logic here.

Didn't Walters once say that Heupel's offense didn't give his defense much to go on when facing other teams? Or something like that. Basically it was so different that practicing against it did not help at all.

24 points was he most Washington gave up in a game.
2025 Washington D held
Ohio St 24
Oregon 26
Michigan 24
UCLA 14
Wisconsin 13
Illinois 25
Rutgers 19
Maryland 20
Purdue 13
Colorado St 21
UC Davis 10
No one scored more than 26 on them

In his two years as Illinois DC (21-22) teams only scored more than 24 on his defense twice.
Notably
Penn St 18
Iowa 6
Nebraska 9
Michigan 19

Some of you people never learn.

We hired a big name from a second tier Big 10 program already. We just fired him!
Tim Banks was a big name? He was like the fifth choice when Heupel brought him onboard. Before coming to Tennessee, Banks had been the primary play caller as a DC for seven seasons, five of those seven seasons his defenses ranked 90th or lower.
