Washington DC Walters is a name to watch

Some guys on OSU board are saying Knowles interviewed and visited Knoxville this week. #1 defense in 2024 but think I’d rather have Walters? Idk i flip flop
Don't know squat about any of the names being mentioned outside of Stoops and Muschamp. Just hope they get a guy who has brains, can plan and adapt during games and recruit his butt off. Oh...and bring physicality...any at all...to our defense. Gimme that guy....for once.

“Tennessee is not Alabama”

True. And it hurts that our program has fallen so far that a UDubb fan considers Tennessee to be an inferior program to Washington.

The truth hurts.
They would be delusional if they think Tennessee is inferior to Washington.

We may not be Alabama of Saban years, but we are 2-2 in the last 4, which is better than Washington’s 0-4 lifetime vs Alabama.

If he gets the job, I wonder how many guys he will want to replace with his guys? I wonder if we lose coach G and Chop??
Great questions. Here's the defensive coaches at Washington for anyone interested in digging deeper. Brian Odom is Barry Odom's younger brother, so he likely knows a thing or two about ball. Taylor Mays is a former USC star who played in the NFL for 6 years, so he also likely knows a thing or two about ball. I haven't looked into the other guys yet.

To be honest, I'd give the guy the staff he wants. Garner is nearing the end of his run and Chop...well...I guess he recruits well? Not sure either is worth creating any sort of stumbling block for the new DC. Heupel hired the man to do a job. Give him the tools HE requires.

20th ranked in a bogus conference. When you have a chance to hire an SEC guy who is a great recruiter and talent developer you do.
Brother I hate to tell you this but there's a pretty good chance the Big 10 has passed the SEC. It's been trending that way for a few years now, and this year's playoff may indeed be the icing on the cake.

Indiana vs OU/Bama
Ohio State vs A&M (potentially)
Ohio State vs Georgia/Ole Miss (potentially)
Oregon vs OU/Bama if they get through Indiana

Should be fun to watch. If the Semifinal teams end up being Oregon, Indiana, Georgia, Ohio State - the argument over who has the best conference is over and the Big 10 wins.

This, all day. I seem to remember a past coaching debacle where we were on the verge of hiring Cutcliffe for head coach. IIRC, he wanted to bring in his own people, and we insisted that several of our assistants be retained. That was the dealbreaker and we entered the wilderness.

Well the top 3 teams in the big10 could compete and win a lot in the sec, possibly win it this year. But the rest of the conference is med at best (Iowa and mich and sc) and down right bad. Ga. is above the rest in the sec, but there are several real good team right below them.
it does appear the big is getting better at the top.

Don't forget Michigan and Washington played in the national championship 2 years ago and Penn State won 2 playoff games last year. USC is also starting to get things going. I still think the SEC is better top to bottom and the Big Ten has just been the recipient of some good playoff fortune recently, but the Big10 is definitely better than it was pre-NIL.

The Big Ten for 80 years was Michigan and Ohio State and then one program who would have a good year (Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota, etc)

Then they added Penn State and there were usually 3-4 decent programs

Then they added the Pac-12 schools and USC, Washington and Oregon are decently good too...

So they have more depth than they did preexpansion, but this "taking over college football from the SEC" is silly

During their "magical 2 year run" the Big Ten still has a losing record to the SEC head to head, and I bet that both OSU and Indiana don't win a playoff game this season

Great point.

Id say this is our front runner but will probably end up getting someone else. If Washington is smart they will try to retain him with a big pay raise. Not that we cant outbid....d say we will just move to the next up. Who that is im not sure. Alot of different options with different pros and cons

You're either young or intentionally selling 90s Nebraska short. They were legit.

Edited to 90s from 80s. Fat fingers.

If you're evaluating conferences how does Rutgers, Wisconsin, Maryland. Purdue, UCLA and Mich St figure into the calculation?

TN DC Coordinator more that likely was hired before Banks was fired. It will be someone Coach Heupel is familiar with and comfortable with his offense. His next biggest hire should be a strength and conditioning coach. We have to get bigger stronger and learn to tackle!

I would like to see OSU vs Georgia. Could be an eye-opening game. I would pick Georgia to win.

The B10 has definitely improved at the top, but I still go to this. Of the NC's since 2000, there have been seven programs who are currently in the SEC who have won... Florida, Alabama, LSU, Auburn, Oklahoma, Georgia, Texas. In the B10, there are three... Michigan, Ohio State, and USC.

Yes, the top of the B10 is comparable to the SEC, but the depth of programs that have been competitive at the elite level is much more in the SEC. In the B10, there are a glut of teams that have been consistently mediocre.

We definitely need to learn how to tackle and defend passes. I thinker S&C just needs a little adjustments. A scheme change id the most important at this time.
