Posted in another thread but still good
Here are the things that I see were botched by the officials in the last 30 seconds. If I am missing something, let me know.
1) An unnecessary roughness penalty on JJ for "leading with the helmet." According to Rule 9-1, Art. 3, subsection a of the NCAA official rules (FR-119) "leading with the helmet means the "crown" or top of the helmet, not a player's shoulder or any other part of the helmet, i.e., facemask)
(Note - Most will say JJ "launched" himself and that it was the proper call. The term launch is not defined by the NCAA rules and is only mentioned one time in the rules (3 times if you count the two ads for sportsmanship found within the rules). Then it only refers to when a player launches any part of his body (shoulder, helmet, etc.) to the HEAD of a defenseless receiver and, in that case, the proper penalty is ejectment not a 15-yard penalty.)
