Agree and look at the stats of some that had no solo tackles, maybe 1 assisted tackle. Compare the numbers of times WV had gang tackles with several near the ball, and how seldom we did. That is the result of being blocked out of plays, so that you can't help out on tackles, the result of getting beat by your opposite number on offense and taken out of the play. Most of the players you names were highly recruited when they arrived, but simply didn't progress and develop their football skills.

I saw several instances yesterday where the DB stood flatfooted until the receiver was even with him in the rout before turning to cover. At thst point it is too late. Remember the old saying about Willie Gault--- if he's even.. h'es leavin.

The best players were on the field (3 freshmen) and you want to blame these coaches. News flash: gonna get burned some more! I hope they stay healthy and get all the playing time they can. Hopefully, we can recruit over them this recruiting cycle and they are backups next year. It's called progress and it's slow and painful.

So you want to include our coach thats coached 1 total game? Wow. Yes Pruitt has been coaching the DBs. Yet, we had true FR DBs starting yesterday against a Heisman QB with AA WRs. Why were FR DBs starting when we had upperclassmen on the bench? I thought Byrd was a stud DB? What does this tell you? It should tell you that Pruitt inherited a team full of undisciplined, underdeveloped guys whose talent level has been vastly overblown.

I believe we will see a lot of improvement next two weeks. If I am wrong and the D is a no show for Flawda....time to point the finger at the door. The line got physically whipped, position by position. The secondary reverted to the oh, the receiver just got by me, I better run like heck to see if I can catch him. I would have DBs in full gear running as fast as they can with their heads looking back at the QB. And then there are those fly by tackles. Whoops there he goes. Too many orange jock straps left on that field. We better get better quick!

If the last 10 months of practice didn't help the Oline, Dline, LB's, DB's and receivers, what makes you think they can suddenly get better in 2-3-4 weeks?

The biggest improvement made during a season is between games 1 and 2. Playing a good team gives the coaches a lot of game film. There were moments where the Vols played well. Playing two lesser quality teams should give the coaches a chance to make corrections and players get more reps. Hard to get too much worse.

Sometimes the Vols make hard things look easy and vice versa
I wouldn't put anything past this Vol team

We should have a rochambeau contest with you guys and the subjects of your ridicule. I dislike the “you can’t do what they do posts” as much as the next poster but damn guys, they haven’t seen a real football coach yet. Give them a couple of games before you start telling them they are worthless.

exactly. if im coach and i tell my dbs to turn their heads and look for the ball then they better start doing it now. it should not take a year or two to learn basic football. otherwise i go down the roster and find someone who will.

Kongbo went after a ball-carrier once? I must have missed it. He wrestles with an offensive linemen every play. After the play is over, he locates the ball carrier and runs to the pile.
Honestly, I've seen him do this repeatedly. Someone needs to teach him his responsibilities, how to focus on the ball carrier, shed his blockers and attack the ball. This pattern has to stop. He's wasting space on the field.

should tell you espn is lying because they said kongbo had a tackle. kongbo couldnt make a tackle vs farragut's 8u team

Kongbo is just another bust, a big bust at that, what a waste
LB's just couldn't get off their blocks, same old story is really getting old

Peterson is going to take Kongbo's spot and then the only time Kongbo will have to worry about making a tackle is late in the 4th quarter when the game's over

I agree insofar as he has played. However, the other guys seem to at least try to shed a block, while Kongbo clearly focuses on engaging his defender and wrestling to the end of the play, rather than trying to find a way past. I hold out hope that someone can teach Kongbo the correct priorities, how to shed blockers and attack the ball. He has the physical attributes, but plays like he doesn't understand his priorities. Guys like Barnett looked past the defender and knew what they needed to do. Kongbo seems to think his job is to lock up and wrestle with his defender. He never impacts the play.
