Howland’s three Final Four teams were built around local players, many of them not among the nation’s top rated recruits, including Collison, Josh Shipp, Arron Afflalo, Ryan Hollins, Russell Westbrook and others. They had low profiles and were mostly selfless, perfect for the kind of team Howland needed for his system to work. But by 2010 even those kinds of players were no longer enamored with UCLA.

I think if he had this roster right now with his style of play.....we have 1 loss....maybe 2 right now.

I agree with all of it.....just don't see him coming back in all honesty. And with an institution/program trying to keep its new, improved, & clean image.....just don't see it happening.

That's one of the reasons they hired CCM - because he won't even sniff an NCAA violation. Hell he won't even recruit a high school player who is committed elsewhere. And the no technical thing is just baffling.

Oh I agree with that but saying he doesn't have elite level talent based off what rivals said when several of those guys are NBA stars is wrong....he also had Love and Holliday during his time at UCLA.

None of those guys were committed to another school.

IMO not making the tournament is hurting his recruiting a lot more than his half true rule of not recruiting committed players.

No offense bTNorange, but I think the one think that's hurting CCM's recruiting is simply a lack of,,,,,anything around this program. I hate to keep bleating about CBP but one thing he did and did it very well was to get the fan base excited. Fans bring the money and that's what keeps the program alive. CCM is simply not getting the job done. His half true rule of not recruiting committed players means he is only recruiting half way. CCM needs to follow CBJ when it comes to recruiting. I don't think he has it in him.

Bruce would have had a slightly different roster of players and he would have given the players passion to play.

Look at all of the underdog role we played when Pearl was here. Yet, as an under dog, we won alot.

Oklahoma State, Ohio State twice, Florida multiple times, Texas, Memphis.

Of course we lost to a few teams that were under dogs also. Southern Cal.

No, we are not saying he is the only, but he will be available and has proven he can. We are not hoping he can if he is hired, he has proven it and wants to be here, why is that so hard to understand. Is there anyone out there that actually believes cbp would not have had us in the tourney the last few years, and can you imagine what he could have done with this team, wow.

I feel you but apparently it wasn't elite in the eyes of the powers that be....that is all I can take from that article. I guess they wanted Kentucky type recruits there but only if they were Californian :dunno:

Bruce lied to the NCAA--he won't be back here unless Cheek and Martin aren't at UT. It will never happen. Tennessee can hire a good basketball coach not named Bruce Pearl. It's like the "Bring Fulmer Back" crowd. You'll love UT basketball again without Bruce people.

No there's no proof either way; but going on history I would think you'd be safer saying he probably loses rather than wins. Plus it's not just him, UT has only won 4 times period at Rupp.

Cheek and Martin need to go anyway, or at the very least have their power restricted. They have no business with their nose in the AD. Separate budgets. Until they're gone, we are going to be subpar in athletics.

As far as Bruce, I don't think he would be back as much as I would love that. I just hope the AD mans up and gets a proven winner, not a project.

Spit. Spittle . Spat. Petrino was banging a University employee. One that worked in the AD. Petrino is married (why?). Petrino tried everything he could to cover up his little motorcyle accident. I think it's laughable that you bring morality to the table and throw Bobby Petrino in the mix - with your little caveat of "maybe". GTFO here with your "It will never happen" bull****. Bruce did lie to the NCAA and he is taking his punishment. Petrino tried to lie to everybody and that POS is still coaching. GMAFB from your HTT attitude. Fire Martin and let the best coach in Knoxville take his place.
