Wanna Get This Off My Chest Before Kickoff

I had a thread to suggest what you'd be doing different if you made the decisions. Didn't get much discussion .

Since we already have people starting threads asking folks not to "go negative" after having our hats handed to us by Bama, I want to go ahead and let this thought that I've been sitting on out there now.

I do not believe that Derek Dooley will ever win an SEC championship at UTK. Maybe, if the landscape changes significantly his odds may improve but I do not see him ever bettering the top coaches in this conference and, as much as those guys get paid, I do not see any of them leaving any time soon. I think Dooley can, in a couple of years, roll off some 8-9 win seasons, after which time we are going to have to decide whether that sort of result is good enough. Real Vols know the answer now, it's not good enough. The main reason that everyone gives for keeping Dooley is that a 4th coach in five seasons will wreck the program and set it back even further. I personally would rather start over now with someone who can beat the Sabans of this sport on the recruiting trail and on the field than to spend the next four or five years farting around with somebody who might manage to take us from the cellar to the middle of the pack. At this point, nobody can convince me that it can get any worse than it is now. As always, JMO. GBO!

I am for sure drinking the dool-aid :eek:k: and I want him to succeed, but anyone who expected this team to beat the likes of LUS/Bama/ or other elite of the SEC with waht he had to work with is simply not being honest. :eek:hmy:

I do think that there is a point where he must prove that he can not only compete with the upper level teams but he has to win some of those games... :pepper:

I just think it is far to soon to declare either his success or failure :banghead2: ...

if he is not winning next year and especially by 2013 I say TIME FOR A CHANGE :mf_surrender:

Name one, just one, viable candidate who would have the level of qualifications you want and be willing and able to turn things around in 18 months. Maybe, just maybe, you could convince Chaney or Wilcox to step up but I would think they would bail as well. You may not like Dooley and you may never like Dooley, but he will be here for at least 4 years so you may as well get used to it.

Wrong.

He's going to have win quite a few to guarantee a 4th year.

Personally, I like Dooley. I want him to win. Very few coaches that build programs get to reap the spoils.

Unfortunantly, it is what it is. The powers at the time and the boosters keep Fulmer way too long. We wouldnt be in this mess if they would have seen the writing on the wall and forced him out earlier.

Cant lay the blame all on Hamilton. The real power behind the program wanted Fulmer to stay until it was already too late

You may recall, I thought Hamilton was a buffoon, but thought his timing on the CPF firing was about right. It was the way he let that go down and the extension that really sucked. Still, I honestly can't say we'd be worse off with Fulmer, even now. Every other year, he was getting a decent class. I don't want him back... I just think we could have done better, had we taken more than 3 days to sort it out after CLK left.

Trying to stick with thoughts at each of these times...

Still, I'd rather be the guy getting laughed at tomorrow for this thread and am going to root like heck for the Vols tonight. :salute:

Haha preaching discipline? Obviously you have never played football my friend! Cuz when your amped up on the field you do things all the time that your coach tells you not to do. JJ was trying to make a play and was in the zone! That's not on Dooley

I believe his point is that CDD will NEVER be able to beat the likes of Saban... and that is not acceptable for UT football.

Who exactly is beating "the Sabans of the world" ??...If we can get that guy by all means let's do it...

Les Miles is 2-2. Auburn has a winning record against Saban at 5-4. I think FL did too before this year.

Good thing that the people in charge will pay no attention to your kind of thinking.

of our normal 22 starters, aren't 15-16 freshman and sophomores? haven't we lost our two best offensive players and our best defensive player this year? with uc at 6-1, we likely will have played 7 teams who have been ranked at some point this season.

which coach can take a team full of underclassmen, without its three best players, and win 9-10 games against 7 top 25 opponents?

I agree that an inability EVER beat Saban should get him fired at UT, I also thought so during the 11 years drought when we couldn't find a coach who could beat Bear Bryant. (but it never did)

I still think the jury is out on IF HE WILL EVER BE ABLE TO BEAT SABAN.

By the way, using that same logic, you could say that Peyton should never had been our QB as he could not beat Florida :good!:

OK. I'd like to get something off my chest.

The next time you feel compelled to get something off your chest... how about doing so with your dog or someone else who doesn't care to hear your whining. Dooley may not win at UT. Maybe he will. But the constant complaining of people like you is absolutely sickening.

How about waiting until something bad actually happens before griping and complaining about it? Or if you can't be that "REALISTIC" about things how about keeping them to yourself where they can harm no one but you?

To all of those ******* saying our team was overmatched against LSU, look at what they are doing to Auburn, a ranked team coming off a NC.

Don't cite any of the problems DD inherited as a reason to withhold judgment... if you do you've accepted mediocrity or can't see "reality" for what it is.

People who make posts this deserve no better than what UT is right now. Loser attitudes absolutely deserve loser teams.
