Since we already have people starting threads asking folks not to "go negative" after having our hats handed to us by Bama, I want to go ahead and let this thought that I've been sitting on out there now.
I do not believe that Derek Dooley will ever win an SEC championship at UTK. Maybe, if the landscape changes significantly his odds may improve but I do not see him ever bettering the top coaches in this conference and, as much as those guys get paid, I do not see any of them leaving any time soon. I think Dooley can, in a couple of years, roll off some 8-9 win seasons, after which time we are going to have to decide whether that sort of result is good enough. Real Vols know the answer now, it's not good enough. The main reason that everyone gives for keeping Dooley is that a 4th coach in five seasons will wreck the program and set it back even further. I personally would rather start over now with someone who can beat the Sabans of this sport on the recruiting trail and on the field than to spend the next four or five years farting around with somebody who might manage to take us from the cellar to the middle of the pack. At this point, nobody can convince me that it can get any worse than it is now. As always, JMO. GBO!
Name one, just one, viable candidate who would have the level of qualifications you want and be willing and able to turn things around in 18 months. Maybe, just maybe, you could convince Chaney or Wilcox to step up but I would think they would bail as well. You may not like Dooley and you may never like Dooley, but he will be here for at least 4 years so you may as well get used to it.
Unfortunantly, it is what it is. The powers at the time and the boosters keep Fulmer way too long. We wouldnt be in this mess if they would have seen the writing on the wall and forced him out earlier.
Cant lay the blame all on Hamilton. The real power behind the program wanted Fulmer to stay until it was already too late
Haha preaching discipline? Obviously you have never played football my friend! Cuz when your amped up on the field you do things all the time that your coach tells you not to do. JJ was trying to make a play and was in the zone! That's not on Dooley

I am for sure drinking the dool-aidk: and I want him to succeed, but anyone who expected this team to beat the likes of LUS/Bama/ or other elite of the SEC with waht he had to work with is simply not being honest.
hmy:
I do think that there is a point where he must prove that he can not only compete with the upper level teams but he has to win some of those games...epper:
I just think it is far to soon to declare either his success or failure :banghead2: ...
if he is not winning next year and especially by 2013 I say TIME FOR A CHANGE :mf_surrender:

I believe his point is that CDD will NEVER be able to beat the likes of Saban... and that is not acceptable for UT football.
of our normal 22 starters, aren't 15-16 freshman and sophomores? haven't we lost our two best offensive players and our best defensive player this year? with uc at 6-1, we likely will have played 7 teams who have been ranked at some point this season.
which coach can take a team full of underclassmen, without its three best players, and win 9-10 games against 7 top 25 opponents?
This **** about being able to beat saban makes me wanna puke. He isnt God. Go be a bama fan. My Lord.
