I don't care about the games or what other people say. I care about JUSTICE. And maybe this is why we don't see eye to eye. We have different views on what justice is. You seem concerned about making sure those who are guilty get punished. I personally care more for about making sure the innocent don't get wrongly punished.
Just look at it this way. What worse? Having an innocent person suffer in jail? Or having a guilty individual escape punishment? I say the innocent being wrongly accused is alot worse than some guilty folks slipping thru the system. And that is how the American Justice System is supposed to work. It makes it very hard to find people guilty. Because one of the values of our justice system is that we care more about preventing injustice in putting the innocent in jail than we care about making sure every guilty person is punished.
Guess we differ on the concept of "punishment". If Pearson was rotting in a cell waiting for the charges to be filed or not filed, I'd see your righteous indignation...HE'S NOT GOING TO BE ALLOWED TO PLAY MAJOR COLLEGE FOOTBALL until this is settled! Playing football is not an inalienable right! It's a PRIVILEGE that has been suspended. It's not my personal preference...just a recognized reality you need to grasp! :yu:Butch and the university have no choice in this matter...neither do we...and that's the way it should be. And I'm not an advocate of punishing everybody until they're not guilty...whatever that blustery spiel you were vomiting out. I'm telling you that if he isn't cleared they will not let him play. Because if he turns up guilty after we win a bowl game with him? We lost.
Some people (very few) solely rely on being good enough at a sport to go professional and make a living doing it. Not only because of their skill level, but intelligence can play a part there. (If you think EVERYONE in the nation is cut out for school, you're a fool). So in retrospect they could be ruining his chance at a career by dragging this out as long as they have. I'm not saying he didn't do it, reinstate him, at all. If he's guilty he needs to be dealt with properly. But with the amount of time, and what appears to be a very serious lack of evidence, something is missing with this case. And this player is being exploited. IMHO.

This story on something called blank news says that this happened at Hodges Library. This leads to this question; Did Von Pearson whip it out in the library?
By missing out on his last season of play because of a crime he may or may not have committed, he is being severely punished and could ruin his life

Unless the accused was your son.
Anyone can play that game. Like I said, in situations like this, people are quick to rush to conclusions. I simply believe that rather than placing ourselves in the place of the victim or the accused, we take an objective position of ignorance. We don't know what happened. And until we do no reason to change the status quo. There is no reason to put a young man (who might be innocent) in limbo simply because someone said they did something wrong.
The legal system definitely doesn't put someone in jail after mere accusations and then let them out once they are cleared. It seems as though people want to make it social policy that employers or in this case college football programs pretty much put the kid in jail and then only let them out if they are cleared. That is clearly contrary to everything this country's legal system is supposedly based on.
No, that's where the victim was when she called to report it. Once the UTPD determined that the incident happened off-campus, they turned it over to KPD.
I would expect there to be a significant status update on the situation at Butch's preseason press conference tomorrow.
He's not banned from campus. He's been playing basketball at the TRECS all summer.
Pearson was put on interim suspension, with the right to appeal by the University on April 27, banning Pearson from campus. Interim Suspension is a status that can be placed on students who are deemed a danger to campus.

The big news here is that he's banned from campus, which is something only a handful of people knew. As far as most people knew, he was voluntarily not taking summer classes while the investigation went on.

I workout at TRECS. He's been there quite a bit.Read the article. His attorney confirms he's banned from campus: Limbo: The Strange Case of Von Pearson | Blank Newspaper
Can't speak as to why they've dragged this out...it's not the University or Butch's doing...their hands are tied and the KPD doesn't really care about VP's pro prospects. I think this is a raw deal but we've gotten sidetracked on the right and wrong aspects. There are realistic options, then there's letting him play without being cleared. The unfair impression of our program is that we encourage assault on women. Might as well put that in our crest if we knowingly allow a potentially convicted rapist to catch a TD pass.
