Von Pearson Update

There's rumblings of some new information for the DA that might help end the investigation and close the case. I don't know if it will or not. The DA has been on vacation this week and maybe last so there are some that think when the DA sees the information the case might get dropped. I would be surprised if anything is done Monday. And it also depends on what the DA sees in the information and if it affects their thinking on the case.

I think from Von's camp there is more positive feelings that it's going to get dropped, but I don't think anyone knows anything for sure and who knows when the DA's office looks at it next week to review it.

I sure would hate for anyone to expedite the process a little bit, since a young man's future kind of depends on it. If he was guilty, then it wouldn't matter, but everything out there makes it sound like he is not. End this and don't screw up his life, if you have nothing to prove his guilt.

He simply might not have needed to take the July summer session.

For the better part of three months I think is what you mean. :)

Correct, he did not need summer school in order to remain eligible. Since he couldn't participate in team activities it didn't make much sense to be in school.

I really hate whats been done to this young man (guilty or not). Its seems as though our society has gone from INNOCENT UNTIL PROVEN GUILTY to GUILTY UNTIL PROVEN INNOCENT. There was no reason for him to have suspended for this long given no charges had been filed other than because of the potential for societal pressure. All that has happened so far is he's been named a person of interest. Absolutely no charges were filed. And now it looks like none will be filed.

Its absolutely pathetic that societal pressure now makes it that coaches need to pretty much dissassociate themselves from a player even at the slightest whiff of controversy. I hope people remember this is America and not North Korea. Just because someone accuses you of something doesn't mean the entire town needs to come after you with pitchforks.

Agree.
I think the timing of this story has hurt Pearson.
If he is indeed innocent.
With the Title IX investigation, Tennessean reporter snooping around, the 6 UT cases, and the national domestic/sexual assault stories.......the UT Administration probably let Butch know that any accusations (no matter how possibly flimsy) must result in immediate suspension.

I personally disagree with this policy.
However, I understand it and understand the argument for it.

Its butch's policy. He suspends anyone that has an ongoing investigation. I like the policy because it eliminates distractions.
Von will be back when he gets back. He put himself in the sich so he knew the risks.

Unless the victim was your daughter.

Unless the accused was your son.

Anyone can play that game. Like I said, in situations like this, people are quick to rush to conclusions. I simply believe that rather than placing ourselves in the place of the victim or the accused, we take an objective position of ignorance. We don't know what happened. And until we do no reason to change the status quo. There is no reason to put a young man (who might be innocent) in limbo simply because someone said they did something wrong.

The legal system definitely doesn't put someone in jail after mere accusations and then let them out once they are cleared. It seems as though people want to make it social policy that employers or in this case college football programs pretty much put the kid in jail and then only let them out if they are cleared. That is clearly contrary to everything this country's legal system is supposedly based on.

What was your view of Jameis Winston continuing to play after the rape allegations? Were you (like me) critical of for continuing to let him play? It worked out for FSU but it isn't, imo worth the risk.

In some cases it's good to distance yourself from a player, but not in this one I don't think. If it were up to me Von would be at practice on Monday fully participating since it looks like there is nothing to this.

We as fans have only her-say information, therefore, I don,t think it is appropriate for us to speculate on what action should be taken by Tennessee coaches or Administration. It may be a he said-she said situation, but without FACTS, we,the fans, should not be judge and jury on these issues.

Things are different if we are talking about a Vol duh. Same people complaining about Pearson being wrongfully held out were complaining about AJ being wrongfully held out......we see where that went. I want him back just as much as the next person, but these things sometimes take time and we really don't know all the details.

I don't blame UT for taking their time. The Feds just launched their investigation into sexual violence issues. There are things much larger at play than VP such as federal funding for the university. It would likely never reach that level, based on other cases at universities, but you cannot willfully role your eyes at the Feds. I bet there are a lot of antsy admins on campus.

You don't have the first damn clue about the situation like the rest of us. "If it were up to you" would mean that you have the same information Jones has and would probably be doing the same thing he is right now, letting the investigation happen.

Von will be reinstated on Friday afternoon from what I'm hearing. Will likely miss first three practices.

Hope this holds true.

Innocent until proven guilty only counts in the courts. In public opinion people can decide, right or wrong, whatever they want to. Plus even the courts get it wrong sometimes.

This has taken far to long though and hopefully will be over with soon. I truly hope Von is innocent and the charges are dropped so he can get on with his life.
