Von Pearson Update

Hey no problem...and to clarify...butch does have a no tolerance policy with sexual/domestic assault or violence....if ur called out you are suspended no questions asked until everything is settled out either in court or with the coaches....I agree 100% with it

But are you ready for your stats to start? Stats on the line here.

Basic NCAA rules:

Must pass 6 "degree" hours each semester (9 each fall FB-only rule) and 18 degree hours total fall+spring. If you don't pass six...you are done, can't make it up either.

EDIT: I think you can make-up classes to bring up the GPA though...

That doesn't seem too challenging; especially if you consider all the academic resources available to these players.

volquest can you state your credibility here? Are you on the team? Friends with players? On staff?

I went back through your old posts and you never talked like an insider before. Just curious.

I am creditable. Not on the team but very good friends with a couple of players...not going to name any names but 2 are starters and yes I understand that I've never injected much info or insight before....always enjoyed reading and sitting back but since I actually have valuable and some trust behind this issue I figured why not give an update.

Given all the resources available to football players, you've got to really TRY to not pass the minimum requirements. It's not like he's a Biochem major. Sad, really.

And I will say poster Orange ParmeJohn can vouch for me...if that matters or not

I dont doubt the validity of your info....but there are those here that will make you regret saying anything. Good luck, and thanks for the input.

Creditable?
cred·it·a·ble
adjective
(of a performance, effort, or action) deserving public acknowledgment and praise but not necessarily outstanding or successful.

Ok then, Go you, for being an ok person. :)

Ouch...u got me there lol

Gotta be honest. If what I'm reading is true, it's one questionable decision after another. He can't keep his grades up enough to play? With such low requirements? He has to know his draft stock is taking hit after hit. Just another example of wasting a God given talent/gift. Setting himself up for a hard life or worse. Can't say he didn't have "opportunities". Can't blame anything or anyone other than himself. Just plain supidity.

It wouldn't be the first time we had a player like this and I'm sure it won't be the last.

He's from a crappy place in a not very great city. He never cared about school then and likely still doesn't. Hard to flip a switch and suddenly develop study habits and the desire to go to school. His early life set him up for failure in the future

Way, way, way too many kids overcome a hardscrabble upbringing and difficult life situation only to find their way and take advantage of opportunities provided them. He was very self-aware when he first arrived on campus last January....perhaps he became a bit complacent and this last "experience" got his attention and he gets it back on the rails and handles his business.

Have more faith in people. Hopefully Von can be added to long list of highly successful people who have overcome early obstacles to have a happy and highly productive life.

Coaches today cant afford to take risks on kids who are too lazy to do what is expected in the classroom. In today's college environment, an athlete has to NOT want to graduate. If he's too lazy to do what is expected, CBJ is better off running him off before more trouble comes up.

And VP was one of my favorite players and I think the most talented WR for 2015 but hell, enough is enough!

And far more from those same upbringing end up failing, in prison, selling drugs, or working menial labor because they can't get into college. Von was one of the types where, if he wasn't good enough to play college ball, he would be working a factory or low end job right now most likely.

That's nothing against him, some people flat don't have the mental faculties to make it in college, and very often those people are very athletic as well. It's one reason our logic of "let's combine education and sports for our professional feeder system" is so idiotic, it hinders some of the best athletes (see, Patterson.)

Are there exceptions? Sure. But the second you start presuming everyone should overcome the odds because someone else did is the moment exceptions stop.
