Von Pearson Update

Title IX is driving all this and nobody wants egg on their faces. DA clears him and then the Title IX board fines him guilty, then, where do we stand. I am beginning to believe we might not see him until next year or never again. This is what it has come to in the system. More hurdles to cross in these type situations for Student Athletes than non Student Athletes. More emphasis because of the spotlight.

Someone who finally gets it

This is an incisive comment. Recent history indicates a clear pattern of delay by law enforcement in Knox County with reference to UT athletes. This is intolerable, even if one is not a UT fan. For the elected officials in Knox County to allow one segment of the population to be discriminated against is untenable, and this state of affairs should be publicized until it halts. If this is allowed to go unfettered, recruiting will suffer.

If blacks were treated this way, it would NOT be allowed to go unchecked. If Hispanics, it would not be tolerated. If whites were allowed to twist slowly in the wind, someone would put a halt to it. Why, then, are the athletes at the University of Tennessee second-class citizens who are not entitled to the same groundswell of support these other groups would surely receive?

SOMEONE needs to speak out for these kids. It is downright EVIL what is happening to these young people.

As Burke said, and I paraphrase, all that is required for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing.
WHO WILL STEP UP AND ACT FOR THESE KIDS?

Idk. It's been 2 and half months.

I'm not sure yet if they're dragging their feet or just getting all the facts.

After all, it takes time to gather information, hire attorneys, get a date, prepare evidence, and present it.

I feel like its not time to make these kinds of assumptions on a case like this, but bare in mind that I have absolutely no experience with stuff like this.

Why would a attorney be needed if no charges have been filed? Not being sarcastic, just trying to understand.

Spoken like a guy who has never been on the opposite side of the law sans representation...they're usually in jail. :shhh:

Clock is ticking here. He has about 4 weeks to get cleared or he's on his way to a redshirt season.

No way he redshirts imo. Will take his chances in free agency if not able to play this year. If he redshirts he would be a few weeks short if 26 by the time the 2017 draft rolls around.

More than likely the reason this case is taking so long, just like other rape investigations, is that the District Attorney is awaiting the DNA test results from the TBI lab before formerly deciding on whether or not to pursue charges. Consequently, the TBI crime lab can be backed up for months with other DNA cases and Von's case could creep along with very little change. I'd be surprised if anything is known before the season starts.

Sometimes, not usually. Depends on the strength of the case. Sometimes attorneys slow down the process drastically.

A.J. Johnson's case is still going too, how long has that been now... 10 months? Not disagreeing with you, just saying it is slow here. As I have said, if he did something wrong he should be held accountable, but this should have been decided if this is going to trial etc.

If you represent yourself? You have a fool for a client. There's a reason that it's one of the most overused axioms in legal circles...it's true! :yess:

AJ's case was investigated as definite intercourse, even if it was forced or not. Is Von's case not just indecent exposure? I can't imagine there would be evidence to gather other than maybe speaking to the few people who witnessed it? I'm not downplaying his actions, in any fashion, but IF the stories we've been provided is true, I think these student athletes are being exploited..

Pearson not in class in second summer semester. Hopefully some information on his case will come out soon.

I've seen the M&M arena copy and pasted 1000 times, over the last few years. Please don't credit something you've read over the Internet to yourself.

Anyone with the Internet should know that. Why be such a downer? Why not just play along? The thread is depressing and I tried to lighten the mood. It's the Internet, nothing is original anymore, especially crapping on other people.

How does one confuse rape with indecent exposure exactly? Was she an Iowa farm girl that just didn't know the difference?

It's smart to get an attorney involved, even for a simple questioning. Sure, you may have done nothing wrong, but they know the law far better than the average joe. This ensures you can properly clear your name, and avoid saying something off that could prevent you from being cleared, or even charged with something minor in connection.
