Never seen a fanbase turn on a player this fanbase has on Nico.
I get the high expectations of Nico at qb , I also understand the amount of his NIL money is a big reason some of the fans are turning on him . I think Nico played well as a freshman behind a bad offensive line , the tackles were really bad. Nico also made freshman mistakes and he also had inconsistent wide receiver play as well . Honestly Nico was the lone bright spot in the playoff game , his future is bright in my opinion.

I think several things can be true at once.
Yes, our OLine didn’t pass protect well and our WR couldn’t get separation and give Nico good throwing windows very often.
But, yes, Nico was too reluctant to run when he should have and didn’t go thru his progressions well when he did have protection and open receivers.
Let’s hope all of that changes in 2025. I do like the fact that Nico has put on some good weight and that’s he’s being more vocal.

“Gutty” second half wins. He made a couple throws against a bad Bama passing defense, the worst Bama team since he was a ln infant, but he mostly turned around and handed the ball to Sampson.

He made what is tied for the dumbest, most inexcusable play in Tennessee history to lose a game and went a month without scoring a first half point. Those are not “growing pains,” and those are not normal. Those are fundamental flaws that can’t be written off as inexperience, because even the worst QBs in school history haven’t done things like that. Pumpers want to hold his hand so much that they argue he played well at Georgia and Ohio State, despite the fact he barely completed 50% of his passes, didn’t combine for 300 yards, and didn’t throw a single TD in those games.

The guy was bad. And his issues were far beyond inexperience. This is going to be another miserable year where you pumpers get outraged and demand that any reasonable person disbelieve what their lying eyes are telling them.
Yeah, he probably needs to transfer elsewhere to get better. lol
Nico is developing and we will see how this season plays out in just his second year starting in the toughest football conference.

Maybe then we can make a more thorough evaluation.

Relax.

There’s no QB controversy this year, but I’ve long thought that Merk, not GMac is the more likely successor to Nico. And that’s probably best because if GMac were to win the job in 2026, Faizon might bolt. But if it’s Merk, Faizon is 2 years removed from Merk, so could be patient a year or 2 before getting the job…and GM is the one likely to bolt.

So you’re mad at him because he wasn’t as good in his first year as you had hoped even though he was pretty damn good as a first year started with protection and average receivers? Yes he needs to get better and I am confident he will. The talent is obvious.
Nico came in as a high 5*, was paid as such, and did not live up to the hype. The thing he has to improve is handling pressure defences. Our Offence was very limited last year, our receivers were average at best, and we had trouble getting our tight ends lined up where they was on or off the line of scrimmage. This is to be Nicos' year, and if there is no improvement, then it's time to cut bait and bring out Merc. I still believe in Nico, but he was overrated as a 5*

Offense, not offence.
Defense, not defence.

We are not. There are just a few trolls trying to see if they can stir something up. They cannot.
The media is the one hyping up Merk and reporting about Nico not looking too sharp. Real Vol fans should be all for camp competition and hoping that the best player takes the starting QB spot by force and not how much NIL one player is paid, being the only determining factor about who gets to start.

Relax.
Last year he had an easy schedule. The “toughest football conference” didn’t force him to run out of bounds to end the Arkansas loss.

Y'all in here arguing about Nico and I'm over here worried that we will have to go over to the frat houses to find some wrs to help the walk-ons.
Would have been nice to have had a healthy Squirrel White in the rotation this year

Don’t get too wound up, EVERY team has bottom feeders that feel compelled to lower fan quality coefficients with REDUNDANT crap. During my BAMA work years, break time generated laughable eye rolls after every loss. Emotional damage takes its toll. It is the prognosticative takes that give them away, when they can’t wait for the new results. Followed by the”I hope I am wrong” follow-ups.

I am just happy they are both working, learning, developing and improving. Beyond that, it's all up to the coaches. It will be fine.

Because he was sold as generational and he isn’t generational. 7.8 YPC is lower than all 32 NFL teams. Jarrett Guarantano averaged 12.3 on his career. I’m not saying he’s JG but 7.8 is paltry at best. And if you can’t stretch the field you can’t run what Hooker ran. I think it’s a large part of the “scheme change.”He has to improve.
His career is ONE year. This fanbase is the most fickle on the face of the planet. His ypc is 12.3. You posted the yards per ATTEMPT stat. Peyton only had a 7.9 y/a his first season.

That's 7.8 per attempt which VERY different than Yard Per Catch. Nico was 213/334 2616 Yards, .64%, so YPC was 12.28 for the FR. I'll assume JG skills improved as he matriculated, as will Nico's. For the record JG's YPC was 7.64 for his time on the hill.
