Vols Spring Practice #10

Last year he had an easy schedule. The “toughest football conference” didn’t force him to run out of bounds to end the Arkansas loss.
Do you honestly think that Nico had it that easy. A bad Alabuba or the Gaturds is still better than 75% of college teams. You make it seem like 10 guys did there job at 100% and Nico got scared so he ran straight out of bounds. I love volnation but I dreed seeing your name. It's always the same uneducated bullcrap. Please go cheer for your bullfrogs

Nico came in as a high 5*, was paid as such, and did not live up to the hype. The thing he has to improve is handling pressure defences. Our Offence was very limited last year, our receivers were average at best, and we had trouble getting our tight ends lined up where they was on or off the line of scrimmage. This is to be Nicos' year, and if there is no improvement, then it's time to cut bait and bring out Merc. I still believe in Nico, but he was overrated as a 5*
Nico & Leavitt were the only RS Freshman to lead their teams to the playoffs.
only 4 freshman/RS freshman threw for more yards than Nico, they played at Tulane, Nebraska, and Ball State, Arizona State. not too bad for the qb playing on a big boy squad.
of those four, they all threw more ints.
and his per attempt & per catch were higher than 2 of 4. and barely behind the 3rd.

against the one common opponent they both started against Nico's numbers were better than Archies if you account for him not playing the entire second half. Nico in one half had 174 yards, and 2 tds, and a 87.5 QBR. Archie had 325 yards, 2tds, and a 79.9 QBR playing the full game.

sure he wasn't lighting up the world, but that was never a reasonable expectation. but when you look at the competition Nico was near the top. it was only our fans outrageous expectations that made him not live up to the hype.

Because he was sold as generational and he isn’t generational. 7.8 YPC is lower than all 32 NFL teams. Jarrett Guarantano averaged 12.3 on his career. I’m not saying he’s JG but 7.8 is paltry at best. And if you can’t stretch the field you can’t run what Hooker ran. I think it’s a large part of the “scheme change.”He has to improve.
He WAS A FRESHMAN… with an offense he had never ran before…. Cause he was a… you guessed it… a freshman.

The biggest jump for the QB in this offense is from year 1 to year 2. You will see.

“Nico’s stats were better than Arch Manning’s if you just add 150 yards to Nico’s total” is definitely a take.

JG may have looked different with a decent OL. Poor guy never had a chance.
Remind me who were his OL in 2020? Trey Smith, Darnell Wright, Cade Mayes, Carvin, Spraggins, Calbert....believe I see the problem

I don’t understand the Nico criticism. I thought he was really good for a freshman. He had to deal with pretty poor line play at critical times and the receivers really struggled. He obviously has some improvement opportunities but what freshman doesn’t?
And I think most of us do agree with you. But there's always a few ***t stirrers.

I keep seeing people bring up Nico’s NIL deal as a reason to almost put him down. His original deal isn’t even that great compared to what guys are being given now. It should have zero impact on your feelings about his play.

Not only that lots of people apparently are ignorant how much NIL money Nico gave back in to the program.
