Vols Schedule Will Change Starting in 2020

Our October is so brutal. It will probably help us to spread out our main SEC games. So many times lately we have to just try to survive October and it had to be hard for the team to be motivated the last half of the year after playing FLA, UGA, normally a strong West opponent, and then Bama.

I'm good with this. Late season is when Georgia does their best choking.
Georgia has owned Auburn in that spot of late though, since 2005, Auburn is 3-11 against UGA. Even we have a better record than that, as bad as we've been. Also, in the short term, playing them later is worse because we have less depth. I'd rather have moved Florida to November. Those gators would struggle more in Knoxville weather circa November 15. Which brings me back to my earlier question, why is Auburn calling the shots?

That totally makes sense. However, I believe in magic. I specifically believe in Georgia's magical penchant for choking out of great seasons, and I think maybe we have a better chance to benefit from that in November... or at the very least, it's a lot funnier then.

I’d propose 2 counter points. First, Mizzou is 5-2 against us in the current spot. And second, playing UF, UGA, SEC West Rotation, Bama and South Carolina all in a row is DEFINITELY bad for depth. Better to put a less talented team in UGA’s place like Mizzou when we’re healthy and give us a better shot to get that win and break up the October Murderer’s Row.

I agree someone needs to be moved. That's not in question at all from my perspective. I am a little irked to find out that Auburn is essentially asking to get out of situation they deliberately got themselves into and questioning why they hold so much sway with the league office. If we went to the league trying to move the Florida game to November because of our early season gauntlet you can bet they'd tell us to pound sand, in fact, I bet at some point we've asked and they've already told us that, but now here we are, bam, Auburn whines and everyone else is re-arranged to accommodate them.

AU has been crying for the last two years for the SEC to change their schedule and not have to play both Georgia and Alabama in November claiming it wasn’t fair. Well, they got their wish, starting in 2020, AU will replace Tennessee on on Georgia’s schedule and Tennessee will now play Georgia in November instead of September/October.
Win/win, IMO. Our Schedule has always been unbalanced towards the September/October months. This will balance things nicely.

From where are you seeing / hearing this part of the story (that the Tennessee game is the one which will be moved)? The two main articles on the matter (SaturdayDownSouth and the original article from 247Sports where the story was broken) mention that the UGA/Auburn game would be moved to either September or October, but nothing further.

Is it an assumption being made, at this point?
Sorry, just saw this. It still has to be approved by the SEC but if it is (likely that it is) then it will be the Tennessee game that’s moved.

My only thoughts on this is if this was such a burden for AU, why didn’t they protest in 2013 when the home/away was changed? Easy solution is play away two years straight and their concerns are eliminated without causing other teams to change their schedules just to fit AU bc they don’t think they can win on the road.

I do see a possibility where this could benefit TN, never understood why all the tough games had to be bunched together in the middle every year so spacing teams wouldn’t be as physically/mentally demanding.

A couple of months ago, someone posted here a 'leaked' Mizzou schedule that showed them playing us in September.

That fits this new revelation perfectly.

So now we're going to have Florida, Mizzou and OOC-Power 5 opponent in September ... Bama, South Carolina and rotating SEC-W opponent in October ... Georgia, Kentucky and Vandy in November. With a couple of cupcakes springled in at the front and back.

That sounds great to me.

I’m glad Tennessee finally found an AD with enough clout to finally breakup the Florida-Ga back to back games we’ve had for so long. It’s a shame it took the Auburn AD to get it done.

As someone who has been to the swamp for a UT game in both Sept and Nov. I vote we have it moved to Nov. Nobody should have to be in Gainesville in Sept. Just awful.

I agree. I have been there 3 times myself. I won't make that trip again until we start having a legitimate chance to win the East. Hopefully, that will be in 2020 allowind me to make the game in 2021. I won't be there this year. I have other SEC venues I haven't seen.

I like the thought of front end loading the easiest part of the schedule. We could use at least 3 weeks of tune up games to start the season. Get some wins under your belt and get some confidence. Then level up.
For years Bama had a very weak schedule the first half of the year. As a result, they could "build" their team as the season progressed, concentrating on fundamentals and building their playbook rather than having to coach to win each game. The perfect example was 1992. Bama was not very good starting the season. They opened with Vandy and struggled much of that game, then a very lackluster 17-10 win over Southern Miss in Tuscaloser, followed by a weak Arkansas team, then a 13-0 win over LA Tech, then a weak SC team lead by Sparky Woods, and then Tulane. By the time they got to the 5-1 Vols, who had played UGA, UF and LSU, they had built confidence over the previous 6 games and worked out the kinks in their offense and defense. Had they played the Vols or UF earlier in the season, they would likely have lost big.

As I understand it the conference has essentially flipped Auburn and Tennessee," Moorhead said, confirming reports by AuburnUndercover.com's Brandon Marcello and Dawgs247's Rusty Mansell.
