I don't see it as being disrespected at 17. I'm seeing a lot of 8-4 or 9-3 even on here. 10-2 is possible but needs a lot to go right.I'm actually happy. I love it when we are disrespected. It makes winning even more enjoyable. Everyone will look stupid doubting us after we go 11-1 and win the SEC.
wow---welp time to prove em wrong. Surprised we are ranked tbh.Texas #1
Georgia #4
Alabama #8
LSU #9
South Carolina #13
Ole Miss #15
Florida #17

They’re a very trendy sleeper pick for the CFP after finishing w/ 3 losses last season, beating USCjr in a bowl game and Altmeyer returning at QB. I’d love to see Bielema get humbled and to shut the hell up. He’s been running his mouth a lot this offseason .Wait... Illinois at #12?
OK literally what the ****?
Illinois has a grand total of three 4* and 5* players OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS. Three! That's it. Total.
We've had 43.
Does Illinois have the most genius coach / easiest schedule ever to grace this game or is their NIL collective golden-showering the planet? Pretty sure our 2nd team starters would drill them into next week.

Point taken - 'totally meaningless' is too strong. My guess is that the teams listed in both the preseason and final 2024 polls had more depth and greater total talent to withstand season grind."Totally meaningless"?
I mean the top 4 pre-season picks all finished in the top 6.
The top-6 pre-season picks all finished in the top 10.
Statistically, this be "correlation"... Ain't no dartboard.

That doesn't mean he's being disrespected. Obviously the coaches have a great deal of respect. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised there, compared to the AP. I'm surprised they didn't have OU ranked at all, given the hype. Also, why would they underperform? Why does anyone out of VN think Tenn would be as good as last year? Its disrespectful given Huepel's track record and the talent level of this team. This is Huepel's most talented roster since he got here and he's exceeded expectations almost every time before with less talent. Why would this be the year he suddenly underperforms?
The FPI is strictly numbers, little to zero bias, and I believe, a pretty good rating system for preseason rankings. That doesn't mean he's being disrespected. The media seems to be really high on SC this year. I don't follow them close enough to understand why. Cany anyone shed some light on that? I know they have Sellers coming back.
That's a weak argument. They struggled to get 10-2, had a bad loss and the offense was pretty rough at times. Everyone then leaves, QB leaves in spring. The expectation is they take a small step back. The entire roster can be more talented but there's zero reason to assume the starters at least on offense will be even as good.Because this is the most talented roster Huepel has had since he got here. When you stack 3 straight top 15 recruiting classes then the expectation is to win.

I think they'll be fine btw. I'm picking 9-3 but won't be surprised at 10-2 or 8-4. Te schedule *could* be harder as well.
