I'm actually happy. I love it when we are disrespected. It makes winning even more enjoyable. Everyone will look stupid doubting us after we go 11-1 and win the SEC.
I don't see it as being disrespected at 17. I'm seeing a lot of 8-4 or 9-3 even on here. 10-2 is possible but needs a lot to go right.

Its disrespectful given Huepel's track record and the talent level of this team. This is Huepel's most talented roster since he got here and he's exceeded expectations almost every time before with less talent. Why would this be the year he suddenly underperforms?

Heupel Is a good enough coach to have his teams ranked in the top 25 with new players in key positions so the 18th place seems good . UF and USC jr's head coaches not so much and they both lost alot of games last year .

Wait... Illinois at #12?

OK literally what the ****?

Illinois has a grand total of three 4* and 5* players OVER THE PAST 4 YEARS. Three! That's it. Total.

We've had 43.

Does Illinois have the most genius coach / easiest schedule ever to grace this game or is their NIL collective golden-showering the planet? Pretty sure our 2nd team starters would drill them into next week.

They’re a very trendy sleeper pick for the CFP after finishing w/ 3 losses last season, beating USCjr in a bowl game and Altmeyer returning at QB. I’d love to see Bielema get humbled and to shut the hell up. He’s been running his mouth a lot this offseason .

Still thinkin about South Carolina. I was curious where they were in ESPN's FPI. They're 15th, so not too far off from their coaches ranking.

"Totally meaningless"?

I mean the top 4 pre-season picks all finished in the top 6.

The top-6 pre-season picks all finished in the top 10.

Statistically, this be "correlation"... Ain't no dartboard.
Point taken - 'totally meaningless' is too strong. My guess is that the teams listed in both the preseason and final 2024 polls had more depth and greater total talent to withstand season grind.
For me, here's the interesting point: Assuming the variability last year is typical (and I don't know if it is), which teams on the 2025 preseason poll will remain be on the 2025 final poll?

The table below looks at the 2024 preseason poll and lists their ranking in the final 2024 Coaches Poll. A "-" indicates that the team wasn't ranked in the preseason poll.

For example, two teams ranked in the top ten in the 2024 preseason poll were not in the final 2024 poll. IF history repeats itself, which two teams, ranked in the top ten in the current preseason poll, are the most likely to not finish in the top twenty-five?

That doesn't mean he's being disrespected. Obviously the coaches have a great deal of respect. Maybe I shouldn't be surprised there, compared to the AP. I'm surprised they didn't have OU ranked at all, given the hype. Also, why would they underperform? Why does anyone out of VN think Tenn would be as good as last year?

The FPI is strictly numbers, little to zero bias, and I believe, a pretty good rating system for preseason rankings.

The media seems to be really high on SC this year. I don't follow them close enough to understand why. Cany anyone shed some light on that? I know they have Sellers coming back.

They went through a stretch last year of beating what turned out to be mediocre SEC teams after almost getting whipped by a mid major early.

People saw Sellers improve over the year as a running QB threat but is still a bad passer until he proves otherwise.

I would not be surprised by another unimpressive start by Beamer.

Because this is the most talented roster Huepel has had since he got here. When you stack 3 straight top 15 recruiting classes then the expectation is to win.
That's a weak argument. They struggled to get 10-2, had a bad loss and the offense was pretty rough at times. Everyone then leaves, QB leaves in spring. The expectation is they take a small step back. The entire roster can be more talented but there's zero reason to assume the starters at least on offense will be even as good.
I think they'll be fine btw. I'm picking 9-3 but won't be surprised at 10-2 or 8-4. Te schedule *could* be harder as well.

Everyone left the secondary last year as we were replacing 3 starters. We ended up having one of the best secondaries in the country with an All-American corner that's projected to be the 1st CB taken in next year's draft. Just because you are replacing a bunch of guys doesn't mean you'll be worse. That's what high level recruiting is for. You don't rebuild you reload. When you recruit like we've recruited the expectation is to win. No excuses.

I believe the o-line in 2025 will be like the secondary in 2024. We'll be replacing a bunch of mediocre starters with better young talent. Look for the o-line to take a huge step forward and that powering us to a successful 2025 season. I have us going 11-1 and being better than we were last year.
