The media seems to be really high on SC this year. I don't follow them close enough to understand why. Cany anyone shed some light on that? I know they have Sellers coming back.
What you said in your last sentence makes them a pretty rare commodity this year. Not many schools have good returning QBs.

Sounds like hedging their bets because there are several unknowns across the position groups. Particularly on offense (QB, receivers). I suppose if I didn't follow the team, I might throw up an 18. But something tells me that number is gonna be way to low. Find out in 25 days and a wake up.

It’s weird. Very few big name programs have proven QBs returning. The Big 12 is the only league that seems to have a pretty good amount of high level guys as returning starters.

The reason I heard that they aren’t supposed to repeat last year’s success is they lost a lot of players, especially on that stout defensive squad.
They lost guys, but tons of teams lose guys. Beamer has recruited well on that side of the ball and most of the projected starters are highly recruited players who were freshmen last year. Dylan Stewart returns and had a really good season as a true freshman last year (6.5 sacks, 10.5 TFLs).

Preseason #13 is too high but I can see them having a year similar to last year.

Bob Baskerville read the 2024 preseason poll and of the 25 teams ranked on 11 were ranked at the end of the season polls are dumb. No way you can know if UGA will top 4 with their QB issue. Texas at one with no starts at QB. Dumb

I get that having a good returning starting QB is huge for that sid eof the ball but does that warrant the hype? Is their defense going to be any good? Do they have anyone around Sellers who can produce or help produce? I am legit asking because I have no idea. I can't stand Beamer so I don't follow them

On the one hand, I figured with the new QB situation, we are probably around #15 till we prove otherwise.
Texas, Georgia, Alabama, LSU all being top 10 makes sense

Florida at 17 could be because I hear rumblings that they are better than recently but the cocks at #13 just seems way overly optimistic. Its a shame we dont play them this year.

I see some easy pickings to rise up at least three spots!

I thought the same thing. I haven't looked at their schedule or anything, but that seems high.

Their schedule is backloaded to hell. The first team they play with a pulse is a road game at LSU in week 6. I wouldn’t be surprised if the polls have them in the top 10 by that point based purely on being undefeated.

Texas and Ohio St should be flipped - no way should a reigning Nat'l Champ not be ranked 1st in first pre-season poll.

USCe at 13 is based completely on Sellers returning and they have fewer question marks across the board.

UT being 18 is about what I expected from all these pre-season polls.
Factor in our questions at QB, O Line, and WR and I think anywhere in the 15 to 20 range is accurate.
