Vols Practice Thread #4

I think one of the biggest issues with wide receiver is that the guys from last year to this point have had to try to practice with like 6 or 7 different qbs from last year to now and i think lacked a lot from both not having much consistency to build on laat year from coaching and playing with 3 different qbs as well as trying to learn new routes and the timing of these new quarterbacks as well. I know you can take a good reciever that was good with one quarterback and put him with a new good quarterback, and he still can be great, but im not sure some of these guys have ever had a real rhythm or consistency since theyve been here because of the changes. Look at jennings for instance, hes played with dobbs and dormady and whoever else in 16, dormady, JG, McBride and whoever else in 17, and the four we have now in 18. He was great with dobbs, but with him only playing part of the first game last year before getting injured, i dont know how much if any of timing he could have down with these new quarterbacks or anything to build off of.

Timing is more of an issue for QB’s than the wide receivers. Wide receivers need to consistently catch the damn ball when it hits them in the hands. Ours don’t. That’s the problem.

What in the blue hell......?

I take it you aren't into animation software like DAZ, iClone, etc. If you look at the recent "thud" practice of our Vols, you'll see them T-posing. Then you will likely understand my joke. Not being snide, just trying to help. BTW, I hope your "blue hell" reference is indicative of what our Vols make the Wildcat's life like this year.

Book it regarding defense blitzing more this year as they have to try and cover up some of their liabilities on that side.

VQ and 247 have mentioned a lot over the offseason that ideally he’d probably be best served spending this year redshirting and recovering from the injury he had last year.

I’m not sure our depth will allow for that, but it would be nice if we have the luxury to give him a redshirts.

They're in shells and in spite of that, the practices thus far look to be pretty physical.

So where was the Jackass walking around with a microphone??

Receivers coach not getting it done. He needs to get his ass in gear. Receivers are dropping way too many passes. You drop in practice, you drop in games.

Which is why the early graduation of Kmac was stunning. He would have played a ton, helped the team & improved his draft stock.
Or he would have regressed, stock would have dropped and he ends up undrafted.

You practice like you play. Too many catchable balls being dropped is not good..........................

Drops are the most overblown thing every year at the beginning of every camp in the country.

They get over reported because it's all the media can even notice in an individual drill.

Easy to report every drop. Hard to report DLs pad level is 3 inches too high.

The players still have that Butch Stench on them and haven't shook off in 19 practices under CJP. They're learning a new way to practice and right now it's all mental. They haven't all made the mental leap to were CJP wants them to be.

uh, did you watch our WRs play in games last year. plenty of drops in camp, plenty of drops in game.

And I really don’t understand drops at the college level. When I was in high school, I caught everything. It was partially thanks to basketball I believe, which I think requires more concentration dribbling, passing, catching, etc with sweaty hands. But I transitioned to catching the football very quickly, in my opinion. Probably had some of the better hands on the team. All that being said, I don’t understand how a kid on scholarship to a major D1 program drops passes...

I saw maybe a dozen catchable balls for our guys last year. So no, I don't think drops were a major issue.

Its beside the point. Go to every practice report for every team and you will find people freaking out about drops. There isnt a correlation because not every team struggles with dropped passes.

Probably harder to do whilst running a 4.5 40 yard dash and catching throws from D1 QBs.

I’m not sure .5 of a second makes the difference in catching or dropping. And most of these kids were catching from those same level QB’s at their respective high schools, so in theory there really shouldn’t be a difference.

That's very impressive considering your hands were no doubt covered with hundreds of dollars of buttery lobster

I would like to see them have to do push ups after dropping passes or something with the same effect.
