Vols Practice Thread #1

I agree. I would like to see him drop about 15 lbs around the mid section to be even a little faster!!! =)

He ran on his sprint relay team in high school track and he is smaller from then. I think when he attended camps and played in high school they listed him around 360. If Fitz and crew have him down to 330 or 320, look out SEC.

Great report Fingers. I'm up in Maine on vacation so I'm only getting my news online.

Keep your eyes on Roman Harrison. I've loved this kid since I saw video of him playing nose tackle at 235 lbs and running down a wide receiver 40 yards downfield. There is a great mention of him on 247 that anyone can read. He's going to be an outside lb and will probably play in four lesser games then redshirt. But the writer on 247 said he already looks like a 30 year old man physically.

To have a ball-hawking defense you must be aggressive. To be aggressive, players must be decisive. Decisiveness is derived from comfort in a system. Comfort comes from knowing your job, in the system. The back 7 will, in general, will have the ability to be very aggressive, only if the front 4 can hold their ground. I'd love to see Darrell Taylor, and others, chasing QB's, pressuring them into ill-advised throws into an aggressive secondary. If we can do this, our two CB's could have a stellar year.

I have a feeling Crouch will start coming in at OLB on passing downs to make several house calls on the opposing QBs!

Power T time anyone?

Yo! about time we start looking like a SEC football team. Fitz and the players have done a good job at getting bigger and stronger.

I know I just watched a 3 minute video of players without pads but some things I noticed:

-To'oto'o is pretty nimble and has good size for a FR LB. If he learns quickly, he might get some solid playing time... especially if no one steps up across from Bituli.

-Wright looked a little out of shape but it's the start of fall camp so he has time to get in condition. Has great size

-#74 and #72 look huge and like they could be some maulers.

Let's hope our OL takes a huge leap and we could have a surprisingly scary offense. But if they still struggle, I'd like to see JC dude quick 3 step drop backs and some screens to keep the defense from blitzing us constantly...although they only had to rush 3-5 guys to disrupt the play.

That's the ticket, more screens and sideways passes.

I'm gonna give friend a past for last year. He was dealt with hot garbage.
Agree, but I also agree with whoever it was that said he (Friend) was the the weakest link on the staff.. IMO.

Of course we need to see rapid progress on that front, but individual posters have different definitions on what that looks like.

I can't even go that far yet. One of the most pivotal positions because of all it requires. Then, injuries and retirements completely change the lineup to our undersized group .

Was hoping for better results, wasn't the least bit surprised by what we got. I have a higher standard this year though.

Yea and it's not even a well knowledgeable opinion, on my part anyway. But there are no rules on opinions.
I guess as long as you’re not another “Sam Pittman or go NAIA”. 😏

Nope, not even close. I also hope our O-line is the best in the SEC this year and my opinion of him is shoved down my throat!
