Vols Practice thread #1

Volquest Staff (@Volquest_Rivals) | Twitter :

From @Brent_Hubbs,
Jeremy Pruitt likes the Vols start on Day 1, happy with more practice field to work with.

@3HL1045
We’re talking about TN football with @JesseReSimonton from @Volquest_Rivals. The Vols opened Fall camp today.

@Volquest_Rivals
Pruitt says newcomer DBs Bryce Thompson, Kenneth George flashed “promise” and “good footwork” on first day of practice.

@Volquest_Rivals
On the offensive line: “We’ve got to develop some depth, but we do got numbers there.”

@Volquest_Rivals
Pruitt positives on Day 1: Communication, QBs huddling, vets retaining info from the spring.

@Volquest_Rivals
Jeremy Pruitt excited about the extra practice field, thought it really helped on Day 1.

@JesseReSimonton
* Chance Hall hasn't played football in more than a year but the OT moved well Friday.
* Shawn Shamburger worked at S.
* Newcomers DWA, Kenneth George, Kingston Harris & Emmitt Gooden are on the "looks the part" team.

@JesseReSimonton
Jeremy Pruitt is the HC at Tennessee, but it's in his blood to coach DBs. He was very hands-on with the corners in the first practice of training camp.

Jesse Simonton
Tennessee's newest TE Dominick Wood-Anderson certainly looked the part on Day 1 of fall camp.

@AustinPriceless
@Chance_A_Hall looks more lean and honestly really solid coming off surgery from this spring where the recovery is supposed to be 6-9 months!

The only REAL thing I'm hoping for is a vastly improved O line, we get that and a lot of doors will open for playmakers. We had the NFL rookie of the year in 17' and even he struggled mightily so that says a lot. I think we have a lot of talent hidden away we weren't able to utilize under Intern Jones.

If cornbread were sweet, how on earth would you make dressing at Thanksgiving? View attachment 161730 (because of course, we all know that dressing is made with cornbread)

Maybe those northerners make their dressing with Duncan Hines yellow cake. Who knows. I think they call it “stuffing” up there though, and it’s probably not made with cornbread like it’s supposed to be.

Shamburger I still believe will be one to watch.... he’s got everything he needs to be successful... Hips, good tackler, speed, length... physical guy... perfect for Star/safety role.... think he will be a player

I think the OL were poorly coached. CBJ coached them to just hang back on their heels and try to stop the DL from penetrating. They need to be playing more aggressively and looking to pancake some mofs.

Alvin had just under 2,000 yards from scrimmage, 7 yards per touch and 23 touchdowns while being severely under utilized here for 2 seasons. I get your point of wanting to see a vastly improved OL...I do too. But Kamara didn’t “struggle mightily” in any shape, form or fashion while at UT.

And again, while I agree with your wanting to see a much better OL, I’d rather see a much improved DL and defensive secondary myself.

Chance Hall just had surgery this spring? Why did it take him so long to get surgery when we didnt play all last year?

Fair point, I think what I meant in my mind was that while still quite good, I imagine he would have been able to rival the likes of GA's or Bama's RB's given our OL had been given proper coaching.

I know that CJP made some changes to the medical staff if not a complete overhaul. I think the way Chance's surgery was done had an impact on the decision to get other Drs. The wait never made any sense to me either.

You may have provided the answer asked in another thread a month back about why Pruit had the team doctors changed out. I don't know but Hall's medical handling, along with our steady stream of injured players before Pruitt's arrival, could be one of the reasons why. Ya know sort of like when the pit boss in Vegas keeps changing the dealer on you to cool you off if you've been winning too much. Pruitt changed doctors to force a change. So far, it's worked.

Absolutely! I think we'll see a much improved line and, as a result, improved offense.

It’s not.

It’s not bad but I always make my own Cornbread Dressing every year. Because that’s the best
