To be fair, both the starting dbs are freshmen and been in the weight room for less than a semester.
Now that I think of it, that is the case for a number of our 2 deep. Several linemen didn't get to do much this spring, so they've really only been going hard post rehab since may. DWA didn't come until August. Kirkland should probably still be rehabbing. Same with TKjr.
As others have said, the fact we've basically survived the season with only a couple of fireball related injuries is a major improvement. The real test will be how much of a step all these players make next season.
It's not just our freshman DBs, Warrior, Ignont, Sapp, they've pretty much all struggled to tackle and bring down receivers and RBs. There's plenty of room for growth, until we are seeing results on the field, touting weight-room warrior records is just 'meh'.
Someone stated previously not sure this thread or not , but we need bigger framed kids on the OL/DL. I am not really sure you are going to see the current roster outside of this years freshmen make a big push in size. Most of the kids on this roster have pretty narrow shoulders. I mean Tatum honestly has the build of a TE just 15 pounds too heavy. What I will be most interested in, in the coming months (6); Strength gains in our current linemen AND our early enrollees. The spring game will give us a good indication as to whether or not our Strength program is working!
Did you read the article or just go on the title? Reading the article they are seeing slow progress. Not sure why the article says Huge gains. Looks like they are seeing a big improvement on players effort in the weight room as well as actually going to class.
I did read the article, it's good of them to acknowledge that considering Fitzgerald was hired in January, the weight room gains have been pretty slow considering where we are in the season.
It's not like Fitzgerald came in here and had to turn a bunch of 600lb. couch turds into football players in 6 months, these players were in decent football shape to start with. If you feel the need to sing Fitzgerald's praises, feel free to do so, but the team still looks weak and soft on the field every Saturday . The only real improvement that's discernible at the moment is that we seem to be much less injury prone now than the last 5 years, which is definitely a positive for S&C.
"Fixed" is a relative term, but 11 months in a college-level S&C program, with a former NFL S&C coordinator, with the facilities and nutrition staff should be enough for most human beings to see radical changes in their health and physique.
Our OL is vastly undersized. That kind of change is not going to happen in 10 months during the heart of the season. I would be willing to bet that most of our OL are 10 pounds lighter at this point in the season than when we started. It is hard to add size doing what they are doing during the season. That is part of the reason people say it will take 3-4 good years.
We have started to see those benefits. So what's your point?
And the point made to you is there hasn't been enough time to make a significant difference. Doesn't matter which position group you apply it to.
I agree, hopefully some of the "smaller framed" guys get repurposed over the short term and or used situationally once we have a strong one deep on both sides of the ball. If recruiting goes the way we all hope, we could see these improvements as early as next year!Someone stated previously not sure this thread or not , but we need bigger framed kids on the OL/DL. Marcus Tatum and nitheaius were both way undersized when recruited out of HS. There’s no strength and conditioning to fix there situations. As far as putting on size in general and gaining muscle mass It usually takes 2 years In a consistent workout regimen to actually see and notice considerable gains. Strength will come firstNo question that injuries are way down. The off season is where the strength and size gains come. You can’t be on a full fledged lifting program in the middle of the season.
The Oline still looks way too small.
I think this team struggles mentally more than physically. Too many busts and missed assignments.
That's a debatable matter of opinion; we've got 11 games worth of film that disagree with you at the moment.
I do believe that the sustained workout schedule and continued weight training in the season has positively impacted the team in the lower occurrence of injuries.
That's a good place to start.I did read the article, it's good of them to acknowledge that considering Fitzgerald was hired in January, the weight room gains have been pretty slow considering where we are in the season.

Has watching the offensive and defensive lines getting abused all season long caused you to have selective amnesia?
